Ego Death Tapes Vol. 1 is a dense, challenging, and deeply rewarding triumph of curation. In an era of polished, playlist-friendly singles, this compilation is a two-sided brick of uncut, avant-garde grime. It’s an album that doesn’t just feature a lo-fi sound; it weaponizes it. The tape hiss, distorted bass, and murky samples aren’t flaws—they are the entire point, creating a hostile, claustrophobic world for the emcees to navigate. “Momentum” in the traditional sense isn’t the goal. Ego Death Tapes Vol. 1 is designed as a deep, disorienting dive. It’s a complete, uncompromising vision of hip-hop as a raw, psychedelic, and cerebral art form. It’s a brilliant document of a thriving global underground that refuses to be ignored.

I wish I met you. I would've dapped you up and thanked you for what you put out to the world, for changing how i view the art of rhyme, and for being the reason I really started participating in it. A lot of people in my life have wondered why I'd take so long to release music, why I wouldn't just drop something to drop it, and a lot of that goes straight to Ka; I learned the value in taking abnormally long periods of writing and rewriting to truly get a point across. I stopped rapping a few years ago because I stopped seeing that value. However with your passing I'm reminded of the value an individual can bring to art, and when someone is gone, especially someone on your level, a void is never filled; and so I begin my journey back into using words in rhythm.
