Our CEO, Debi Marriott-Lavery joined a powerful International Women’s Day panel hosted by the Australasian Housing Institute, alongside leaders Rebecca Pinkstone, Jennifer Westacott, Jayde Ward and Simone Parsons. They talked about complex challenges facing the social a housing sector with curiosity, honesty and a shared belief that “it takes a village”. There was strong sense of camaraderie. And an important acknowledgment that housing and health are inseparable. Debi reflected on her early career as a nurse in some of the UK’s toughest inner‑city areas, where she witnessed first-hand the link between poor health and poor housing. “Time after time, I saw people coming through the health system simply because they were living in unsafe or inadequate housing - and so many were women. That’s why I moved into supported housing, particularly to help women facing domestic violence and homelessness.” The panel also talked about the complexities faced by residents who struggle to maintain a home after long periods of trauma or instability. Debi said “many people coming from homelessness or with mental health issues haven’t had the chance to build basic living skills. Some are incredibly lonely. We need to understand the individual - their needs, their vulnerabilities - and use data intelligently to ensure we place people where they can truly belong." Minister Rose Jackson closed with a powerful reminder that International Women’s Day began as a movement for housing justice - and that progress continues because of the women leading the sector today. A huge thanks to ahi for hosting a meaningful discussion - one that reinforced the critical role women play in driving housing reform and creating safer futures. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2026 #WomenInLeadership #Leadership #GenderEquality #SocialImpact #CommunityImpact #Housing #AffordableHousing #DomesticViolenceAwareness @debimarriottlavery

✨ Celebrating the powerhouse women on the frontlines of community housing this International Women’s Day ✨ Today at our Liverpool HQ, we gathered for an inspiring event with a panel of women from our frontline teams. They bravely shared stories of trauma, strength, survival - and how those experiences led them to work at SGCH to support women and children who need safety, care, and a place to call home. 💛 One panellist said something that stopped the room: “When you can talk about your past without sadness or anger, you gain a kind of superpower to help someone else.” There were tears. There was laughter. There was so much heart. And above all, there was a deep reminder of the empathy, purpose and fierce determination that frontline workers bring to our community every single day. 🏡 At SGCH, we currently support more than 1,000 women in Sydney who are vulnerable or at risk, but we know the need is growing, and we’re committed to doing more. Our Group CEO, @debimarriottlavery , summed it up, saying: “I’m so proud to be part of an organisation with such strong, fierce females who have overcome adversity and show up in the most amazingly positive way.” To honour the incredible network of services supporting women in crisis, our teams made donations to: 🤝 Women’s Housing Company 🤝 Aboriginal Women and Children’s Crisis Service If you or someone you know needs support, you can find information about safe housing and services on our website. 💛 #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2026 #SGCH #CommunityHousing #WomenSupportingWomen #StrongerTogether #EmpoweredWomenEmpowerWomen
