Raised in Birmingham, SG’s early life was steeped in music, his father being a drummer in a family band. His interest in music deepened when an American cousin introduced him to rap, leading SG to explore freestyling and rap during his teenage years. This was further enriched by his discovery of UK Garage through pirate radio, drawing inspiration from Vader, Devilman, and D.A.Z. SG innovated by blending his rap skills with UK beats, creating a unique sound that marked the beginning of his distinct musical identity.
SG’s journey took a significant turn as he moved from Garage to Grime, joining the “Down N Dirty” crew and collaborating with artists like N.O.D.B and Devilman at Oxygen Rooms studios. It was during this time that SG started recording, thanks to his collaborations with producer Papez.
Discovering Bassline at Sheridans in Dewsbury, SG was instantly a fan, enjoying the genre’s energy. However, post-rave meetings with artists like MNT and Asher transitioned him from observer to active participant, merging his rap roots with Bassline’s rhythm.
SG’s Bassline debut, “Hmmm Yesss,” came about after teaming up with MNT over a Subzero beat, leading to a session at DJ Total’s Leicester studio. This track, complemented by further collaborations with Bass Boy and the iconic “Ohhh Yesss,” cemented SG’s status in the Bassline scene.
Touring extensively with Bigoss and Jalla, the “Warbus Tourbus” era saw SG performing across the UK, becoming a fixture in the Bassline and UK Garage scenes. Now, in 2024, SG continues to innovate, his passion and creativity undiminished, further solidifying his legacy in UK music.
