💜 Friday night lights 💙 Friday….magic! ✨ An incoming CIR (co-rotating region of solar wind) hit earth on Friday, so of course I took a random little road trip to the first place that came to mind, to catch those lights! I just knew Point Betsie Lighthouse was the perfect place to capture it all, where her rocked lined shores glistened under the night skies, and waves were rolling just off shore.
And the colors of Friday’s auroras? Stunning! The purples, magentas, greens (and even some rare blues!) complimenting the starry sky, were the ultimate recipe for perfection! It was simply magical (and well worth the 2.5hr drive) 🤩 #mynorth #auroraborealis #longexpoelite #puremichigan #lighthouse

When the dune and the entire scene come to life…and standing atop the dune with such jaw dropping views…you are ALIVE! A resting driftwood leads the way….to a path that treats the eyes, calms the senses, and exhilarates like none other. I feel like I am in this area of northern Muskegon county a lot lol. Whitehall, Montegue, White Lake…you name it! This area is a true heaven on earth and such a gem! I feel incredibly lucky to have this peaceful, unspoiled area close enough to my home.
A place where I can hop in the car for a short drive and take in beautiful scenery, evenings (and some dune climbing exercise)! Climbing up this dune takes a bit of work…but it’s always worth it for this view from the top!
Last evening while working away in my office on client work, I noticed that the cloud radar was looking pretty promising for a real beauty…and just like that I was off for little sunset chasing and dune climbing adventures! More images to come….this was just the beginning and the sky proceeded catch fire after this as if to say, “You ain’t seen nothing yet!” (Pardon my corny slang there 😂). As I sit here on this Thursday evening only hours away from the lovely month of May (and closer those warmer Michigan days to come), this brilliantly colorful scene from the year before last comes to mind! I am honestly not sure how this one got lost in the shuffle of massive backlogs (🤭😂) and never shared here…but better late than never, as they say (actually I think it’s me that says that a lot 😆).
This evening from September 2024 was pure insanity on the burning sky scale…it was SO vibrant, that I actually had to take a saturation DOWN a bit. A deep blue sky erupts into fuchsia….blanketing a landscape so desolate. Peaceful. Only the ghost forest from trees of days past, and the shifting sands of rolling dunes can be seen for miles. If you look closely enough…you can see the vastness of water that is Lake Michigan. And if you listen….you can hear nothing but the sound of tranquility.
The sights and sounds of an otherworldly landscape that is so intensely beautiful, that it moves you to your core and soul. This is what a hike, and time on these dunes does to me - every singe time. It’s such a special place and I can never get enough! I ventured out last evening and it was simply perfection. Aside from another photographer I noticed in the distance (and his adorable, very happy dog who was clearly having SO much fun out there with his dad 😍), I had the entire dunes to myself. Not a single soul.
That will be changing very soon, as the 2026 Silver Lake season will be officially be underway the beginning of May! And as much as I cherish those dunes in their quiet, off-season mode, I also look forward to ORV’s, and all the summer action of Silver Lake again! I think I have said it before…but the pink and white blossoms (and most especially the PINK ones!) of spring time are my absolute favorite! And one of my favorite places to enjoy them? Downtown Grand Rapids!
GR is just bursting with blossoms this time of year, and I just love nothing more than strolling downtown to take in that spring time, cityscape goodness. It’s one of my favorite ways to @experiencegrandrapids .
