My phone buzzed in August to a DM from @theofficialsuperstar Molly Shannon who shared how much she loved @dearalanapod . This can’t be real, I thought. But it was.
I remember Molly’s candid and brilliant memoir, in which she shared all the ways loss, faith, and grit formed her, brought humanity to her characters, and forged her devotion to her father, who, like Alana and me, kept his own secrets.
We sat down for breakfast to talk about all this recently. We marvelled at how authentic stories can connect strangers. And we had many laughs.
On this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful to all of you, old and new friends, for a special year. And like Molly, urgently grateful to be alive: “You’re up to bat and you’re fucking…ALIVE!”

Yesterday the Supreme Court released their decision against Colorado’s minor conversion therapy ban. It was a lot to process. And I was able to pull together a conversation on the Church and the case with Catholic psychologist Dr. Julia Sadusky, Simon Fung who consulted for Colorado on the case, Justin Telthorst from Empty Chairs, and Veronica from the Leave Laugh Love podcast. More new work. A new place to release & collect.
Making art is hard. Doubly hard because artists feel alone in creating for pick-me algorithms in spaces that don’t quite feel like home (IG often feels that way to me). So it’s been a really fun few months helping launch @metalabel__ , a new release platform for creative work from the founders of @kickstarter & @etsy . It’s a space for artists, designers, filmmakers, musicians, writers, and other creators to release their work, be discovered, and support one another.
This week, as part of Metalabel’s Fall/Winter 2024 Collection, some of today’s most prescient artists & thinkers will be joining releasing their work, including @augustlamm , @brianeno , @hotemogf , @forevermagazine , @bloatedandalone4evr1993 , @thecreativeindependent , @joshuacitarella , and @teamyacht . Still in disbelief. Last week at The Ambies, @dearalanapod was awarded Best Personal Growth / Spirituality podcast. It was really special to have Alana’s mother and sister join us, and to be among podcast creators making their art, telling their stories.
