What a joy to see the Taube Atrium Theater transformed into a bustling Sevillian town square this weekend.
From wigs and braids at Figaro’s barbershop to costume closets, puppet premieres, live opera, games, and first encounters with Rossini’s music, dozens of families joined us for a sold out afternoon of creativity, curiosity, and play.
A huge thank you to our Department of Engagement & Connectivity, teaching artists, staff, volunteers, and performers who poured so much imagination and care into every detail of this experience. Events like these don’t happen by accident—they happen because of people deeply committed to making opera welcoming, joyful, and accessible for the next generation.
Seeing young audiences experience opera together was a beautiful reminder of why this work matters.

Congratulations to composer Gabriela Lena Frank on receiving the Pulitzer Prize for Music for her orchestral work Picaflor: A Future Myth.
San Francisco Opera was proud to co-commission and present sold-out performances of Gabriela's first opera, El último sueño de Frida y Diego, during our 2022–23 Season, which the San Francisco Chronicle described as “luminous and often irresistible.”
We’re thrilled to celebrate this well-deserved recognition ❤️
