A new Huxley has joined the husk*. Say hello to Holiday Huxley the Hare, the new limited edition @sewyeah embroidery kit with a whole new jewel toned palette and a scattering of reclaimed silver sequins and glass beads. Hello! So many lovely new followers found me this festive season which is amazing. Seems like my embroidered felt creations found a little place in your hearts (and hopefully future project stash! â¤ď¸) which is just so lovely and special for me. So this is me saying hi đ and thank you and welcome!
This selection of photos are from a time in December when I felt proud of myself. It was at my studio open day and I had set everything up like a little shop. It was very pleasing to see all my kits and makes out on show and I had a moment of thinking âooh look, this is what I do nowâ. Hereâs a few more facts about me to get you all up to speed âŚ
1. I trained as an illustrator, worked 25 years as a designer and art director of womenâs magazine but have always been a little bit crafty.
2. I started selling regular (one a month) embroidered felt pattern PDFâs during lockdown - I also ran Friday night Instagram live sessions and built up a great creative community.
3. Now I also run the @sewyeahsocialclub Subscription Service which is starting back in February with a new set of monthly projects and online workshops.
4. I am gradually turning my favourite digital patterns into kits and pattern books. Look out for Huxley The Hare and his sister Honey in the months to come.
5. I teach workshops at museums, on cruise ships, in my own studio, at craft fairs - anywhere you want really!
6. Iâve written 12 craft books - if you look on your shelves maybe you have one of my books.
7. I recently got a new studio as part of a bursary from the Worshipful Company of Broderers. This place makes me feel happy, calm and like I can do anything. Which is pretty good isnât it.
Any questions just shout! #feltembroidery #embroiderypattern #sewyeahsocialclub
Wahey May! Here is my latest embroidery celebrating all the glorious tulips that are filling the parks and gardens at the moment. At the beginning of the year I set myself the challenge to design 12 floral embroidery patterns suitable for beginners using a set of simple geometric templates to create the different floral shapes. Each one is embellished with simple stitches sewn onto 100% wool felt âpostcardsâ. These tulips are decorated with lazy daisies, French knots, seed and lattice stitches.
These tulips are part of my Wyld Wood Year embroidery club and itâs not too late to join! thereâs more info in the bio.

Alt text: gentle uplifting video of a hand embroidered tulip design on felt made from 100% wool. The design is an original creation by me Christine Leech also known as Sewyeah. The video shows the finished piece hand held against real life tulips shot outside. The embroidery design is a folk and mid century inspired pattern. It is bright and colourful and full of joy.
đźOstara walks the woodland path,
With shining eyes and gentle laugh.
Sheâs here to help the land renew,
to greenest green and bluest blue.
The bluebells bud, their leaves unfurling.
See silvered bark and catkins twirling. đ¸
Oh Hello Ostara, the fourth Wyld Woman of the Wyrd Wood. The magical mystical world I created for my year long embroidery club (Iâve almost caught up posting with the correct embroidery projects in the correct month!) A little more info about this Wyld Woman - Ostara The Renewer is a spring goddess associated with fertility, new life and renewal. Her power is to warm the air around her as she walks, sending gentle breezes through open windows and encouraging you to step outside, take a deep breath, close your eyes, smell the blossom and take a moment to reset. April is a month where flowers start budding and birds sing louder, building their nests and becoming less reliant on the feeders in our gardens. By the end of the month itâs time to put the birdseed away and let them fend for themselves. #embroiderypattern #folkembroidery #mindfulmaking
The British bluebells have been early this year, this weekend maybe the last time to see the ancient woodlands with their carpets of blue. This little embroidery is the fourth in the Wyrd Wood series of stitched flora motifs. Part of the @sewyeahsocialclub monthly membership club. #floralembroidery #learntoembroider #folkcore
đ¸ The month of March sees light returning,
After weeks of dark and candles burning.
Equal length of day and night,
Mildred gently puts things right.
Joyful highs and calming lows,
Breathe in, breathe out, an even flow. đ
Say hello to Mildred The Balance Restorer. The third Wyld Woman from my Wyrd Wood Embroidery Club.
For several reasons Iâve been slow to post on here recently ⌠which isnât great when you have monthly projects to share! Iâm trying to catch up with myself and get back on track. Here are some more facts about Mildred and if youâd like to join the club there more info in my profile â¤ď¸đ¸â¤ď¸
March sees the Spring Equinox on the 20th. For a while the sun will be directly over the equator giving us days when there is a more even amount of light and dark. Getting up in the morning doesnât seem like such a chore and we can start coming home from work in the daylight. Everything hopefully will just seem that little bit easier. Mildredâs power is to walk the wood at dawn and dusk, brushing aside autumns leaves and coaxing the worms and grubs to get busy,
opening up the soil so things can grow. #folkembroidery #embroiderypattern #britishfolklore

Daffodils bobbing in the breeze. The third Wyrd Wood bloom for our year long flora felt appliquĂŠ and embroidery wall hanging. So cute đźđźđź #folkloreembroidery #floralembroidery #sewyeahsocialclub
The Belfry - The Secret Keeper - this little wooden tower sits inside the Wyrd Wood and is the place the Wyld Women go to store their thoughts, their dreams and their stories. Some people use scraps of paper and backs of envelopes to make daily to do lists, others have beautiful journals and perfect fountain pens to record and process the days events. When a Wyld Womanâs head gets too full, they visit the Belfry to offload. It helps them gain clarity for the next small step on their journey.
No idea wha Iâm taking about? Wyrd Women of the Wyld Wood is my new 12 month Embroidery Make-a-Long. Each month introduces a new Wyld Woman or abode and a new Wyrd Flora embroidery pattern. I was inspired to create this wonderful world when researching the AngloSaxon roots of my surname Leech. When I found out it derives from Laeces the gentle female healers with great knowledge of the natural world and its power to fix and heal, my brain went off creating and came up with this! Drop me a comment below if you want to know more! #embroideryclub #englishfolklore #natureembroidery
Went on a hunt for primroses this afternoon to photograph my Primulas embroidery against. Maybe itâs a little early in the year but only spotted one or two. It was lovely to hear the birds singing and lots of other tiny flowers popping up.
This Primula pattern is part of the February Wyrd Wood embroidery subscription club. More info in bio. A perfect project for your felt and floss scraps. #floralembroidery #springcrafts #embroiderypatterns
Welcoming the Wyld Women of the Wyrd Wood. A year long online embroidery subscription inspired by folklore, nature and seasonal stories. Each month two new projects are unlocked - A Wyld Woman with her own decorative embroidery patterns and stories to tell and a Wyrd Flora design, all created from a handful of geometric shapes. Over the months the women and nature motifs come together to create a unique wall hanging or set of ornaments.
This project has been inspired by my research into the Anglo Saxon origins of my surname Leech and how traditionally the Laece Women were healers, herbalists and Wyse Women protecting their communities and natural environment.
Join me and learn to create your own unique Wyld Women. More info in bio. #embroiderydesigns #folklore #creativeclub
