With ONWARD MOMENTUM screening virtually, and no red carpet to strut, plus I'm out in the world touching grass, I wanted to share some past red carpet moments that I never posted! PICTURE IT......It was Fall 2019.... the last bit of normal before the 'Rona hit! My fashion film "As Above" won Diaspora Achievement in Narrative at the Silicon Vallley African Film Featival. @svafilmfest It was my 2nd time winning but my first time attending! It was out in San Jose, CA and I met so many wonderful filmmakers from ALL OVER Africa. I saw some really incredible and innovative films!! It was also a HELLA stressful time period so being out in the Cali mountains with a whole bunch of talented African filmmakers was the R&R a Gee needed. I was out there for 3 days I think... we visited Adobe's headquarters and I was invited to speak on a panel about African Women in Film. Finally get to share images from ONWARD MOMENTUM! This was the first time I worked with a whole new crew! And lemme say it was a full on ALLSTATE set cuz a Gee was in Good Hands! Everyone on set was top notch how I like! Annnnnnd... we had FUN!! It was a smooth one day shoot.... not even a full day! We filmed for about 4-5hours and then the photo session took over and finished the day. We had a cupla film roadblocks but when you're prepared AND you work with a SKILLED team....potential big problems turn into small and quickly solved snafus! There's a whole story getting Cleopatra Stella Jones into the building!! SLIDE 3: Cinematographer @mylo__b getting the shots! This shoot was a whole workout! I had Mylo on the floor, doing half splits and deep squats! WERK! Mylo is my former student, now he's Booked & Busy shooting celebrities and filming Vogue shorts! We love a graduating success story! Did y'all catch me on @ny1 news? TONIGHT is the LAST night for @uptownnightmarket in Harlem! I'm gonna miss it, but the Founder said he got something else up his sleeve. *Funny thing... me being a nosey production nerd, saw the reporter's rig and was checking it out and asked him about it... It was an iPhone with a remote mic and a really cool handheld case. That convo flipped into "Can I interview you?'... and being the Leo that I am, who am I to deny that pleasure!! 🤩

My favorite part of my Film+Fashion class at @prattfilm_video is our LIVE Studio Shoot! The whole goal of this shoot is to give my students an up close experience on what it takes to produce and shoot a fashion film.... on a budget! I want to prepare them for all that's involved in shooting their own fashion film next month. Sooooo much detail! All of the wardrobe is pulled from the graduating Fashion Design students' thesis collections. I go to the fashion show in May to make my choices for October....send them to my Right-hand @chandralmoorestylist ....we narrow down the selection and brainstorm a baseline concept. My class and I continue to flesh out that concept. Request emails are sent to pull wardrobe, as a class we do light tests, come up with set ideas and then SHOWTIME! We either shoot in the studio..... OR... transform the FV building into a set! A Professional Glam Team and a Professional model work on the film. My class experiences a completely professionally run set that they crew. My class designed the lighting, built the sets and props, took the fashion stills, shot the BTS, DP'd it and will later edit it! These are some screenshots from this year's film! I had the pleasure of working with @sontiarowdy again and the Hot Damn duo (their new name) MUA @thuggish.ruggish.tone.mua and Hair Designer Jazmen @hairbykrown . The fashion story for this semester.... "A Haute Crime Story", and lemme just say... they literally SLAYED! I love working with Jazmen and Toni! This year's Fashion Design students also killedt it! Shout out to @_grisp , @zing.qiu , @yalei_offical , and @_kwhitehead for saying YES and being part of this year's film! Their pieces were sickening! I want @zing.qiu 's dress so bad lol!! And I got to work with jewelry designer @grise.nyc whose pieces were featured as part of the story! *Black Woman owned jewelry designer! #GoSupport Big thanks to my department chair Kara Hearn and @prattfashion Assist Chair Tessa Maffucci for their continued support and resources helping to make these films happen yearly. This is our FOURTH one!!! I'm so proud of my class!!

It's the first week of the semester, and I found out my Film + Fashion class had a WAITLIST!!! So fly!!! So fly!!! *we're all settled now 😉 Every Fall, I teach a new set of Seventh Ave Cubs everything there is about the world of Fashion Films! A full immersive studio class! One of the fun things we do as a class is produce a fashion film. My right-hand and Fashion Editor for all things @geespotcine , @chandralmoorestylist , and I look through the final thesis collections from the graduating Fashion class and choose our favorite looks. I go to the runway show, pick what I like, send it to Chandra, and she picks what she likes. We narrow it down. From there, my class and I work on a concept or flesh out a concept. Then I bring in professional models, professional hair and makeup, and as a class, we make a fashion film! It's quite the production in the Film Video building! The point is for them to get hands-on experience working on a fashion film with professionals and couture clothing, this way they'll be prepared when they shoot their fashion film. Cuz it ain't like shooting a regular film!! (They learn soooooooo much from these shoots!) Although I am already a certified Eritrean Lady Head of House... I still have to be recertified every few years to make sure traditional standards are upheld. Cuz we loosing recipes y'all! Currently have a jar of Injera batter on Day 5 brew and roasted some fresh coffee to ace my upcoming ceremonial exam! Yup... I roasted that on my stove. My special spice mix. And this is longest I've let my batter sit. Going for 6 days to get maximum hydration. Fingers crossed, tomorrow we make the absit and then another 1-2days for that to settle before I can test this batch. Feeling good about my recertification! LELELELELELELELELELELELELEEEEEEEE!
