This summer, VPA faculty are making their mark on the East and West Coast! 🌎
Two faculty members are heading to Los Angeles and New York City as inaugural recipients of Syracuse University’s Study Away Summer Awards.
Li “Lily” Jiang, assistant professor of fashion design, will investigate adaptive apparel needs for disabled performing artists in LA, examining pain points like heat management and quick changes, working toward an inclusive design toolkit. 👠
David DeAngelis, assistant professor of music education, will deepen partnerships with K-12 schools leading the way in contemporary music pedagogy in NYC. Two events will come out of this project: a Fall 2026 professional development day and a Spring 2027 NYC music workshop. 🎵

🎶 From Syracuse to South Africa ✈️
On Monday, 50 members of the Hendricks Chapel Choir are heading to South Africa to perform alongside high school, university and community ensembles.
It’s the fifth continent the choir has toured as part of a goal to perform on every inhabited continent before Hendricks Chapel’s centennial in 2030, with Oceania still on the horizon.
Music has a way of connecting people across every border, and we can’t wait to see the magic that unfolds. 🌍
