New director’s reel and website out today.
Over the past two years I’ve been slowly transitioning from DP work to more directing and really loving it. Thankful to the community of creatives that have supported me as I worked to build a directing portfolio and reel. While this feels like just the beginning, it’s good to pause and acknowledge the work and time it took to get here.

From the start we hoped to shoot this project on film but ultimately budget and rescheduling due to covid forced us to shoot digital.
@justincary shot on his S16 Super Speeds and cropped in on the sensor to get us closer to the look we wanted from shooting 16mm.
We decided to take the song title, ‘Separateness’ and lean into high contrast, playing with reflections, light painting, low frame rates and smudging filters.
@justincary@andrew.claycomb and #daviddunsmoor created such a perfect look for this piece!

Originally I envisioned creating a jungle inside a weight gym. Thankfully @justincary steered me away from that over ambitious idea and the hunt was on to find a jungle looking spot in Wichita Kansas.
With all of my wife's house plants and her closet mirror, my neighbors weights, some skillful rigging by David Dunsmore with Titan tubes, running 200' of garden hose into the woods and lots of mineral oil fog we were able to create something I'm really happy with!
When I was approached to film a spot about these new LED/solar camping lights the Wichita Wildlife Refuge was the first location that came to mind. It is a special place for me and it was so fun to be apart of this project.
All of the parking lots were full the day of filming so we had to bushwhack into an area I had never been. We had limited time before the sun went down and there wasn’t much time to scout. Luckily we found a great exposed area with the sun in the right spot and got the shots we needed.
