Join us for “Building Community through the Archive” with Noe Montez, Ph.D.— scholar, director, dramaturg, and Associate Professor of Theatre Studies at Emory University.
Drawing from research supported by the Latinx Theatre Commons Latinx Archives initiative, Montez explores how archives can become spaces for connection, collaboration, and community-building — not just solitary research. The talk examines ways theatre archives can center overlooked institutional histories and offers strategies for supporting community-driven archival projects beyond traditional research libraries.
Montez is the author of Memory, Transitional Justice, and Theatre in Postdictatorship Argentina and editor/co-editor of numerous influential works in theatre and performance studies. He currently serves as Vice President for Research for the American Society for Theatre Research and will begin as Series Editor for the University of Iowa Press’s Studies in Theatre History and Culture series this January.

🎭 The Tonya Pinkins IBTF Legacy Award, sponsored by Tony Award-winning actress Tonya Pinkins, will bring one acting, directing, or design artist to the International Black Theatre Festival (July 27–August 1, 2026) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to connect with industry professionals and be recognized at the festival’s Opening Night Gala.
The award includes VIP access to opening-day performances, the Celebrity Welcome Reception, and the Opening Night Gala, with housing and travel provided.
