Hafez uses a practice in which she manipulates images by hand. One such series is 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴, a long-term project where she collages and paints over documentary photographs of spectators at public executions in Iran. Hafez shows us a form of censorship, not for suppression but for activism. "Public executions were introduced in Iran following the Islamic Revolution of 1979 [...]. According to the UN Human Rights Commission, more than 900 people were executed in Iran in 2024. This makes it the country with the highest number of executions [...] worldwide. Using visual material from public executions sourced from national and international news agencies as well as social media—some of which circulates uncensored—[Hafez] creates paper collages and paints over the images. Her aim is to make the executions visible without explicitly reproducing the violence." - Giulia Cramm, Photography Researcher and Curator Please contact [email protected] for any inquires. 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴, a series by Nazanin Hafez. Unlike usual, the 360-degree views here are not uploaded by Google employees, but by private individuals. Hameed is interested in images that depict empty spaces—such as blurred black areas, pixelation, or glitches—which can be interpreted as references to war and its consequences. This 'visual destruction' [...] highlights how technological regulation determines what is visible and what is not, how and by whom images are created, and how they circulate." - Giulia Cramm, Photography Researcher and Curator Please contact [email protected] for any inquires. 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘗𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 and 𝘊-𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘒𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘬, 𝘔𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘭 1993-94, two series by Raisan Hameed. Installation Views by Joe Clark. --- #raisanhameed

While his works are grounded in a highly intuitive and concentrated mode of production, the emphasis remains on the image as a site of encounter. Painting becomes a means of testing how forms come into being, how they persist, and how they disappear again. Gleiwitz’s canvases become arenas in which psychic, historical, and material forces converge, visualizing not static forms, but moments of emergence shaped by both control and contingency. The exhibition is on view and runs until June 7th 2026. Please send any inquiries to [email protected]. — #gregorgleiwitz

We see this Night when we look a human being in the eye, looking into a Night which turns terrifying. [For from his eyes] the night of the world hangs out towards us.” — G.W.F. Hegel At SETAREH London, Gregor Gleiwitz’s paintings unfold through darkness, gesture, and dissolution — figures surfacing from abstraction only to disappear again into paint. In his accompanying essay, Gregor Jansen places Gleiwitz’s practice in dialogue with Pathos Realism, Neo-Expressionism, and traditions of psychological and existential painting, where bodies, memories, and unconscious visions emerge in unstable and shifting forms. The exhibition is accompanied by an essay by Dr. Gregor Jansen, who acted as the Artistic Director of the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf from 2010-2025. In the text, titled 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘰𝘳 𝘎𝘭𝘦𝘪𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘻, Jansen draws comparisons between John Milton’s “pandemonic” image world in his epic 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘴𝘵 and Gleiwitz’s expressive canvases. Coining the word, 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘶𝘮, Milton combined divinity with the pathos of modern angst. Always a commentary on contemporary fears, Jansen’s text contributes to the on-going transformation of the concept 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘶𝘮 for Gleiwitz’s exhibition, defining it as as “the abode of all demons and evil spirits, and, figuratively speaking, represents a place of horror, or wild turmoil. […] With a joy that is nothing short of sublime, Gregor Gleiwitz animates his pictorial worlds, shaped by the mythical-surreal creations of the Expressionist era. Like magical incantations, he arranges pictorial compositions into a tragic inferno of everyday and perpetual bitterness, which possesses an aggressive essence that is purely intrinsic to art.” Dr. Gregor Jansen’s essay is available to read on our website. For a preview portfolio, please contact [email protected]. 𝙍𝙚-𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘇 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗱 02.05.26 - 13.06.26 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Friday, 01 May, 2026, 6 - 8 pm SETAREH | Schöneberger Ufer 71 | Berlin @nazanin_hafez_ @raisan_hameed SETAREH is excited to present 𝘙𝘦-𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦, a duo exhibition, bringing together for the first time Iranian artist and filmmaker Nazanin Hafez and Iraqi-German artist Raisan Hameed. 𝘙𝘦-𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 is an encounter, an opportunity to put into dialogue two practices that, while rooted in distinct geographies and histories, share a profound and urgent engagement with the image as a political site — something produced, distributed, and controlled by power. Nazanin Hafez’s practice is rooted in her personal experience of political oppression under the Iranian regime. Hafez consistently returns to a central tension: the relationship and dynamics between the image and the power structures that produce it. A key body of work is her collage series 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴, for which Hafez intervenes in the websites of Iranian and international press agencies. She draws attention to the way that state violence is not only enacted but requires orchestration and execution on a systematic scale. Raisan Hameed’s work moves between the personal and the collective, using his own biography as an entry point into larger questions about war, memory, and what images can and cannot be preserved. Working with family archives, found photographs, digital tools like Google Maps, Hameed is consistently drawn to the places where images are damaged, pixelated, or incomplete. Rather than treating these as problems, he makes them the subject. The exhibition opening will take place during Berlin Gallery Weekend. A curatorial essay by Giulia Cramm will accompany the exhibition. Please contact [email protected] for a preview. 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 Nazanin Hafez 𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 2024 Analog Photomontage 41 x 46 cm --- #NazaninHafez #RaisanHameed

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗶𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇 𝘿𝙞𝙨-𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 01.05.26 - 07.06.26 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Thursday, April 30th, 6 - 8 pm SETAREH | 2 Bourdon Street, Mayfair | W1K 3PA London SETAREH is pleased to present the sixth solo exhibition of the German artist, Gregor Gleiwitz. 𝘋𝘪𝘴-𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 will take place in London, the artist's first exhibition in the Mayfair space. Gregor Gleiwitz’s work is deeply informed by art history and literature, drawing on a lineage that spans from early Netherlandish painting to modern and contemporary figuration. Echoes of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the Elder resonate in his densely layered compositions, where hybrid forms, fleeting figures, and ambiguous narratives unfold. Like these predecessors, Gleiwitz constructs pictorial worlds in which the grotesque, the mythological, and the everyday coexist, yet his images resist allegorical clarity, remaining open and unresolved. At the core of his practice lies a sustained inquiry into seeing itself. Gleiwitz has described an early, recurring mental image of himself seated on an eye, being situated both inside and outside of vision, simultaneously perceiving and being immersed within what is perceived. This counterposing position continues to inform his work as the paintings operate as thresholds between subject and object, interior and exterior, where vision becomes an active, generative force. Forms seem to emerge from within the act of looking, only to dissolve again, implicating the viewer in their continuous coming of being. Please contact [email protected] for a preview. ‍ 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 Gregor Gleiwitz 01.12.2025. 2025 Oil on canvas 172.2 x 146.5 cm --- #gregorgleiwitz
