La Chronique Livre : Stray Sod de Maria Lax Dans Stray Sod, Maria Lax s’aventure au cœur du folklore irlandais pour livrer une œuvre envoûtante sur le sentiment de se perdre : dans un paysage, dans la nuit ou en soi-même. Fóidín mearbhall. En langue irlandaise, ces deux mots font référence à une « motte de terre enchantée » sur laquelle il suffirait de poser le pied pour perdre tout repère. Voyageurs désorientés dans des paysages pourtant familiers, chemins qui se dérobent, brouillards épais, montagnes bleues ou maisons mystérieuses surgissant de nulle part : dans la tradition populaire du pays, ces récits abondent. La photographe finlandaise Maria Lax a passé des années à les collecter dans les archives de la National Folklore Collection de l’University College Dublin. Désireuse de mieux saisir ce phénomène, elle a finalement décidé de s’installer en Irlande, posant le doigt au hasard sur une carte, et y restant près de deux ans. […] Beaucoup des récits que la photographe a pu lire se déroulaient à des moments charnières, comme la nuit ou sur le chemin d’un enterrement. « J’y ai vu un lien avec ce que les gens traversaient à l’époque, mais aussi avec ce que nous traversons tous aujourd’hui. Parfois j’ai l’impression que nous ne reconnaissons plus le monde dans lequel nous vivons. »  Nous avons chacun, à notre manière, vécu ce type d’égarement, cet état qui peut naître d’un deuil, d’une dépression ou d’une simple angoisse : une perte de repère face à un monde qui reste le même sans que l’on puisse toutefois s’y retrouver. C’est cette expérience, aussi intime qu’universelle, et pourtant si difficile à nommer, que raconte Stray Sod. […] La présence humaine ou animale est bien souvent celle qui finit par ramener les égarés : « C’est en voyageant seul que l’on est le plus susceptible de se perdre. La connexion à l’autre est un puissant antidote à l’isolement dans lequel on se noie. » Il est en effet souvent impossible de sortir seul du brouillard. @maria_lax_ @setantabooks @loeildelaphotographie
