Six years ago, I had just quit my job and was sitting in my apartment during quarantine. Single and alone. I had no plan. I had no idea what I was doing. I just knew I was bored and had nothing to lose. So naturally, I started dating men on Instagram Live.
Little did I know that show would change the trajectory of my life. It led me to a community of women I would speak to every single day about their love lives. You told me your stories. So I finally put my English degree to use and wrote a book.
Since I could read, my favorite genre was dating books. I devoured them. They made me feel less crazy and less alone as I struggled through bad first dates and worse situationships.
But something was always missing. A book that would give you a hug and a slap in the face. A book that doesn't just tell you how to make it official, but shows you how to make love actually last.

Writing it has been my favorite thing I've ever done. Being glued to my desk day after day, typing away with only two fingers, has been the joy of a lifetime. And incredibly stressful. I've woken up in the middle of the night agonizing over whether I covered everything so that you would feel less alone and fully seen. I went back and read every DM and diary. I listened. I interviewed hundreds of women. I focus grouped. I reflected on what it means to be a woman who makes her own money but also wants to be taken care of, who wants love and isn't afraid to be unapologetically herself.
I poured everything into this book. And it is finally ready for you.

When it came to announcing my book, my first instinct was to do something low-key. But then I remembered I'm Serena Fucking Kerrigan. I don't do low-key.
So I ordered a seven-foot 3D version of my book cover, wrote custom fortunes for fortune cookies, and invited 250 people to party on a Wednesday night.
Part of me felt guilty asking people to go out on a school night. I kept saying "no pressure" like a liar who very much wanted everyone there.
And to my surprise, they came. I looked around the room and felt really fucking lucky. It meant more to me than I can put into words.
