LOCATION: Legler Areal
Thanks to its rivers and streams, Glarnerland developed into one of Switzerland’s most industrialized regions. From the mid-19th century, the textile industry flourished here, with water-powered fabric printing works, spinning, and weaving mills producing goods for a global market. The Legler family supplied European haute couture with printed fabrics, and dominated denim production in Europe during the 1970s. Production ceased in 2002.
In response to a growing call for social alternatives that emphasize sustainability, community spirit, diversity, and innovative visions, artists will, in September 2024, breathe new life into the Legler Areal after 20 years of dormancy. Over the course of five weekends, they will infuse the site with vibrancy, energy, critical thinking, and alternative visions. The 3rd Klöntal Triennale aims to inspire reflection on its future, particularly in the context of climate change and the transition from the industrial to the post-industrial era.
