Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III led the flag ceremony at the Philippine Senate in Pasay City on Monday, May 4, 2026, as the chamber marks the resumption of plenary sessions.
In his address to Senate officials and employees, Sotto stressed the upper chamber’s commitment to helping Filipinos amid the global oil crisis and the rising cost of commodities.
“Hangad ko na makatulong ang Senado para maibsan ang epekto nito sa bawat isa sa atin,” he said.
The Senate chief also called for the chamber’s support in fulfilling its constitutional mandate. Amid ongoing impeachment proceedings, he reiterated the Senate’s dedication to impartiality and transparency.
“Tayo po ay magtulungan lahat para sa isang epektibo, handa, maaasahan at mapagkakatiwalaang Senado ng Pilipinas,” Sotto said.
Sotto was joined by Senate Secretary Mark Llandro “Dong” Mendoza, Deputy Secretary for Legislation Atty. Marivic Laurel Garcia, Deputy Secretary for Administrative and Financial Services Atty. Arnel Jose S. Bañas, Deputy Secretary for External Affairs and Relations Enrique Luis D. Papa, Senate Legal Counsel Maria Valentina S. Santana-Cruz, and other Secretariat officials.
