Salar de Uyuni in southwestern Bolivia covers over 10,000 km², making it the largest salt flat on Earth.
It was formed when prehistoric lakes slowly evaporated, leaving behind a vast mineral crust. During the rainy season, a thin layer of water transforms the surface into a natural mirror, reflecting the sky so precisely that the horizon almost disappears.
