I’m happy to announce that starting on June 3rd and continuing until December 2nd I will be in residency at @centralonair in Cambridge Massachusetts. I will be curating a OG Boston set reminiscent of the radio stations and shows from the past I grew up listening to like WRBB,WERS,WILD, WMJX,WBCN,WZOU,WXKS and WFNX as well as the old clubs like Avalon,Lucifer’s,The Channel,The Sugar Shack,Stocks and Bonds and Spinoff’s just to name a few. This will exclusively an all 45’s set playing Funk,Soul,Disco,R&B,Jazz,Yacht Rock,Hip Hop,Rare Grooves,Electronic,Freestyle,International,Edits and whatever other fly shit I come across in my digs to share. The show starts at 8:00 PM EST every first Wednesday of the month. You can either stop by the studio or catch the set live on at centralair.com. I’m looking forward to taking you all on this journey with me through these purposely curated sets packed with memories of my trials and tribulations, lost and found loves and the factually crazy experiences growing up all over Roxbury,Dorchester, and the Southend beginning in the 70’s that make up very fabric of what and how I DJ these personal songs. -EL

Continuing my story about my dope experience at @arubavinylrecords yesterday. So as me and the owner were just talking about music, vinyl, supporting local record shop I was playing the stack he preped for me he had that grin and said”I got something you gonna have to take home” if you know me you know I love learning about music and history in general. He had this LP by Lloyd Baptiste and also the 45 both are straight Aruban funk, soul from the 70’s! So ________ actually knows Lloyd on a personal I’ll call him now and go over his house grab a copy from his personal record collection have him sign it and get it to you before you go back to Boston. Bang Boom Bamf!! I don’t play LP’s outside so I doubt it will be heard at one of my residencies but the 45 I also got (signed too) will most certainly. So a brief history about Mr Lloyd Baptiste: also referred to as Lloyd Jean-Baptiste) is a well-known musical figure and entrepreneur in Aruba, particularly associated with San Nicolas. Musical Career * Calypsonian & Singer: He is a prominent calypsonian who has been active in the Aruban music scene for decades. He was part of the band Lloyd and the Jays, which served as a house band for local resorts like the Divi Divi Tamarijn Beach Resort in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He is noted for being the first Black singer to perform at the Amsterdam “Lido.”. I was staying at the very hotel on the back of the album that he opened up in 1974. Crazy surreal and a full circle moment for me as well. It’s crazy how music truly unites us all from all over this planet. And best believe my music connections in Aruba have just begun!! -EL

I like to travel mostly for the chance to find gems in places few from Boston may have been and 99.9 percent of the time I don’t share plugs simply because I’m from the era of do the work and keep your sources to yourself! @arubavinylrecords is the exception, firstly the customer service is top tier and I’ve been all over the world to buy records and these two cats are professionals all around. Then after meeting the owner and just talking music,45’s equipment, vinyl and the world in general and find out this is THE only store in Aruba. Which leads to the most important part __________ has so many 45’s he was literally throwing them away due to not having space and not enough buyers and the modest store needs traffic to ensure like minded DJs like myself who support not only with social media but also with the wallet where it counts so he can remain open for years to come. And his collection is heavy with Funk Soul and Latin and Euro versions of joints. So these two records that I’m excited to bring home are of hhistorical importance to Aruba and to the @divitamarijnaruba hotel as well and to me now as well. To be continued…

Knowledge Of Self Part 5.. This bronze God here is Armond Guillory a simple man from Louisiana,a World War Two veteran who I’ve been told had no problem unaliving goose stepping racists in Europe,he was a true outdoorsman he hunted, fished and loved to garden. And and he could cook like no one else he could make two rock taste like steak and onion and his fish fries were off the chain. •He was also a Master Tailor, yes he made all his own clothes as well as for my Grandmother and my aunts and uncles and for many of his friends and the community he was at dry cleaners all over the SouthEnd and most notably at Barney Brothers on Hemingway Street ( across from Symphony Hall Brighams and Stop and Shop). His pride and complete knowledge of self even at the height of racism in the North is clearly evident in this photo he gave zero fucks what the world thought he was determined to protect provide and shelter his family. Was he perfect nope not even close and he had his own demons that he was dealing with. I have many fond memories of him most notably when he “won” a sky blue Caddy ,with cream leather interior and sidewalk springs. And we drove up a Blue Hill Ave banged a right on Quincy and when we got to Warren he aired that shit out past Zayers,W.I.L.D Spinelli’s all the way to Churches Chicken yeah he gambled a shit ton with money and life. And he was always stylish and dapper his chains rings and watches always with European sense of style and design just a bad motherfucker in my eyes. He even watched my oldest son when I went to work in the 90’s. He passed about 20 years ago and I often think about his journey and what he had to overcome and yet he still kept it moving forward and did so with style and grace.. This is quite literally a thread that’s woven into the fabric of who I am. -EL

Knowledge Of Self Chapter 4. So this is a picture of my Uncle Jao Pina and his boys in 1967 when the RedSox were in the World Series versus the Cardinals,I’m not sure if it was game 6 or 7. What I do know is these cats were dedicated to go from Middleboro to Boston about 45 miles by wheelbarrow (insane in any era) and watched the game. History tells us the Sox didn’t win anything until 2004 but what I do know that Jao passed sadly before ever seeing his beloved Sox win. Two things are displayed here, yes Cabo Verdianos do indeed love baseball and my uncle went thru all types of shit when he decided to get focused and get the job done! This thread too is also woven into the fabric of who I am. -EL

Knowledge of Self Chapter 3. We’re going to turn over the Cabo Verde side of my bloodline for this episode. This is my Dad’s Grandmother down in Middleboro in one of the bogs harvesting cranberries. So from what I’ve come to learn she was born a little after the Civil War (186?) and migrated to NewBedford and ended up in Middleboro where I still have family today,my Tia Dada is 96 and still going. These are strong women who didn’t let anyone or anything get in their way when it came to their families. That thread too is woven into my fabric. To be continued.. -EL
