We would like to wish all of our service users, staff, volunteers, partners and supporters peace and comfort this Christmas.

This Giving Tuesday (2 December), let’s celebrate generosity and the power of volunteering! ✨
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving - a movement that inspires millions to do good in all its forms. This year’s theme is “Give Your Way”, reminding us that there are countless ways to make a difference: from donating to volunteering your time and skills.
Maureen, one of our incredible Emotional Support Volunteers, showed just how powerful volunteering can be. When Sue was caring for her husband Mike during his final weeks, Maureen stepped in with compassion and practical help - driving to appointments, offering a listening ear, and helping Sue access vital support. Her kindness made a world of difference.
You too can be that difference. Whether it’s offering a listening ear, helping with errands, or simply being there, your time and compassion can transform someone’s journey.
👉 Join us this Giving Tuesday. Be the reason someone feels supported, seen, and cared for.

Next Tuesday it's our Newark Cancer Carers’ Support Group.
The group meets at the Macmillan Information Centre, located at the YMCA, Lord Hawke Way, Newark NG24 4FH.
This monthly group offers a warm, welcoming space where carers can share their experiences, learn from one another, and simply feel supported - without pressure or expectations.
You can expect a friendly and understanding community of individuals who know first-hand the challenges of caring for someone with cancer. The group offers a space for you to share experiences and gain valuable insights from fellow carers who are navigating similar journeys. There’s no set agenda - just a relaxed and supportive environment where you can feel heard and understood. Attendance is flexible, so you’re welcome to book a place in advance or simply drop in whenever it suits you.
The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

What an amazing day at the Meadows Community Centre this week! 🌟
Our Cancer Care Coordination team joined the Meadows Health and Wellbeing Event to support patients from Clifton and The Meadows in Nottingham. It was an inspiring day full of conversations, practical advice, and a shared commitment to better health for our community.
Our stall focused on the vital messages:
- Don’t miss your cancer screening invitation
- Screening Saves Lives
And the response was absolutely fantastic!
- 3 mammograms booked
- 5 bowel cancer screening kits requested
- Supported people worried about symptoms and encouraged GP visits
- Shared important info on prostate health
Our Beyond Diagnosis colleagues also had brilliant chats with over 25 visitors, sharing experiences, offering resources, and even inspiring new volunteers. We signposted people to extra support like the Macmillan Support Line, local Information Hubs, and community resources such as the Carers Hub and Disability Support. And there was belly dancing with Janet from When Women Gather! 💃 A joyful reminder that wellbeing is about body AND soul.
A huge THANK YOU to the organisers and everyone who came to say hello. Events like this show the power of community, connection, and collaboration.
💬 Want us at your next community event? We’d love to share knowledge, resources, and support. Get in touch!

With thanks to Macmillan Cancer Support and Carers Federation for working in partnership with us to bring carers together in a safe, understanding, and supportive space.
Today at King’s Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire we were honoured to attend the Cancer Information and Support Event, hosted by the Macmillan Cancer Support Team.
Around 30 patients and their loved ones joined us, alongside dedicated professionals from Psychology, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Complementary Therapies, the KMH Pastoral Team, and various support agencies.
This event is a powerful reminder that no one has to face cancer alone. Patients and carers were invited to connect, learn, and discover the many support services available to them during such a challenging time.

Last week, we were proud to be part of the Community Health and Wellbeing Event at The Hope Centre in Clifton - and what an incredible turnout! Over 250 people came through the doors to take positive steps toward better health. On offer were free health checks (blood pressure, BMI, weight, height), chair-based exercise tasters, info from local services and support groups, and free refreshments.
It was fantastic to see so many people engaging with their local health and wellbeing teams. Our colleague Karen was busy chatting with visitors at our stall, while Keeley helped with refreshments and welcoming guests.
The next event takes place on Tuesday 18th November, 11am – 4pm at Queens Walk Community Centre, The Meadows (NG2 2DF).
If you or someone you know would like information about cancer health or screening, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help.

Community first: reaching people where they are 💛
We’re incredibly grateful to Imran for recently inviting our Macmillan Beyond Diagnosis Team to spend time at @openkitchenmh , a vital community hub on Mansfield Road in Nottingham run in partnership with Muslim Hands UK.
The Open Kitchen provides free, hot, nutritious meals every day of the week to people experiencing homelessness, low-income families, and refugees. More than just a meal, it offers a warm, respectful, and inclusive space where everyone is welcomed with compassion.
Rose and Karen from our team spent the morning volunteering, chatting with visitors, and offering support. During their visit, they connected with one individual affected by cancer – a powerful reminder of the importance of being present in spaces where people may not typically seek out support.
This visit marks the beginning of a wider outreach effort. We’re committed to reaching communities who may not come to us, particularly those from Black and Asian backgrounds, to raise awareness about cancer support and the importance of early screening. We’re proud to share that we’ve recently been awarded £130,000 to expand this work, with new team members joining soon to help increase cancer screening uptake across Nottinghamshire.
Imran has also invited us to visit his local mosque, where he volunteers, and we’re looking forward to continuing this partnership and exploring how we can support even more people in the community.
If you’re part of a community group, faith centre, or organisation and have members affected by cancer – or if you’d like us to come and talk about cancer screening – we’d love to hear from you.

Together, we can make sure everyone has access to the support and information they need – wherever they are, and whatever their background.
