🌍 A new name. A deeper purpose.
🥁 The artist formerly known as Freeky P emerges as Sejo Ilaw (Say-oh · ee-lau), a name drawn from Filipino roots and ancestral lineage, fusing his cultural identity into every beat he plays.
✨ Having shared the stage with Francis Mercier, Joezi, and Maz, and as curator of @sweetxswawa , his melodic, soul-driven house and afro house sound carries weight, warmth, and intention.
🔥 April 11 marks his debut performance under this new identity. Tribal Escape is where the chapter begins.

Never heard this @because0801 song until he performed it at @apothekamanila for the @cheke.ph release party. 2nd day in Siargao and had to make this afrohouse / ama blend. It’s also been helping me learn Tagalog a lot more translating captions.
I been working on a lot of Filipino song remixes the passed couple months and I’ll finally be playing them all tomorrow night at @wild.siargao if you’re on the island pull up!

The last couple of years I’ve been wrestling with the idea of changing my name. All I can say is this: letting go is hard, very fucking hard… but remaining the same hurts even more!
Since 2009, I’ve gone by the Freeky P alias. It started as a rapper with Boombox Saints and later carried into my DJ career in 2013. I’m deeply grateful for the many core experiences, lessons, and opportunities of the last 16 years. It has shaped me to who I am today.
But as I’ve evolved, not just as an artist, but as a man walking in faith. That name no longer resonates or represents who I am or who I’ve grown to be. This isn’t a branding decision. It’s a deeply personal one.
After a lot, and I mean A LOT of reflection, I’m stepping into this new year and my (re)birth month under a new name:
Sejo Ilaw
(Say-oh · ee-lau)
A name rooted in my Filipino heritage, family lineage, and a commitment to healing generational trauma through my creations.
Sejo — a nod to Tagalog baliktad slang, an inversion of my real name Jose, which is also my father’s name.
Ilaw — Tagalog for “light,” and the nickname of my late grandmother, who was a poet, radio host, and MC.
I close this chapter with much gratitude to everyone who has supported and shown love to me over the years and comes with much excitement for the future.
Freeky P will always be a part of me and I will carry everything that came before with me —but as today I move forward as Sejo Ilaw.
Here’s to walking in the light and creating from a place that finally feels aligned.
God Bless 🙏🏽
