“trip” is another outcome of the “world, symbiosis, animism” project. I brushed it up from the event; this is the latest version.
It provides an immersive experience of a Japanese person’s inner mind to stimulate people’s way of seeing the world by introducing four specific ideas, mainly from Shinto, Japanese local animism, which many Japanese keep daily.
The idea of animism to take good care of others and non-humans can help make a sustainable world.

Outcome1 Physical installation
“hug” is an outcome of the “world, symbiosis, animism” project. It aims to affect people’s way of communicating with non-humans from a hierarchical way to a symbiotic way through the ideas of animism, which believes everything has spirits or gods inside.
It communicates that stones feel the world with temperature, pressure, sounds etc., which can allow people to imagine that stones have a spirit or a god, and provides new perspectives to see objects, and the world.

“The Producer”

Outcome 3, Physical Installation
By adding the core elements of Green Tattoo with encapsulated living algae(they are living in the gelly stuff!), Auguste Rodin’s masterpiece “The Thinker” comes to have an opposite meaning. The man looks only to think; however, he is “producing” oxygen and nutrients and contributing to the environmental issue.
Moreover, the statue lights when people breathe to the back, making audiences intuitively learn about algae’s photosynthesis using CO2. It went relatively well for the first time using Arduino, but I have to develop this part next time:)

“Green Face Tattoo”

Outcome 2, Movie/ Physical Installation
This is the summarised movie of an installation for another WIP exhibition in March.
It shows the visuals of the green face tattoo and allows the audience to experience having a tattoo by shooting photos through a clear acryl board.
Algae usually look like only green water, but each tiny creature lives and breathes there. The installation shows an image movie of algae to make people pay attention to such tiny invisible creatures.

Regarding the origin of the hierarchical relationship between humans and non-humans in today’s society, the historical Western way of seeing the world based on Christianity plays a significant role. For instance, the phrases in Genesis of the Bible represent it. It shows the historical fact of algae and human’s possible future of “symbiosis” by arranging the original sentences of Genesis and utilizing green tattoo visuals as an animation story.

“Green Tattoo”

Field Collective Project / Speculative Fiction
This project is to realize a symbiotic relationship between humans and microscopic life, algae. It invites audiences to imagine a speculative world in which people are re-shaped with a particular tattoo and get the ability of algae to make oxygen and nutrients.
I created three outcomes for the exhibition, and here is the introduction to show the living algae, Spirulina, in an unusual container.
