This weekend 22-24 of january it's the yearly Sailtraining Conference organized by STI
@tallshipsraces in Bordeaux 2026.
I am participating for the first time, as boardmember of STAS
@sailtrainingsweden although I have been a part of this community since 2007 and my first internationall experience was in 2014. (See my story in highlights)
The homepage for Swedish tall ships seglaskuta.se was created by a bunch of young sailors after participating in the TSR and I was one of them conspiring about how to package the experience "tallship sailing" to youths and beginners instead of working on recruiting only to our "home" ship.
We thought, as the collective swedes we were, if we can get more spotlight on all the ships, the diversity to choose from and the big community to be part of then all organisations would prosper and it could be a big national fenomena!!
This is the same idea that the
@sailtrainingyouth council is working on - how to maintain a steady flow of newcomers to pick up where the older generation has started building.
Seglaskuta and the youth org USSO hasn't reached it's full potential in Sweden... yet, but a lot is happening with a new youth section on the westcoast
@ungpavastkusten and on the eastcoast a group of 20-25 year olds has saved the tall ship Ariel from rotting and taken charge of the ownership and renovation under the parole "by youths, for youths".
With these pics I want to leave with you a nostalgic trip down memory lane, when instagram was more innocent, before influencers, and how I made friends with dares and shared triumphs during the harbourfestivals of TSR 2014 & 2015.
In 2019 I only sailed Astrid Finne down to Aalborg, when they lacked a mate for the passage over from Gothenburg. Those few days in harbour I reconnected with a bunch of friends from the previous races, in the streets, at the parties or standing harbour guard!
I hope you will bare with me these following days, updating you from the conference, and pls let me know what interest YOU! Also what DOESN'T, so you spare me the trouble!
Ask questions here in comment, send me a pm or maybe a dare?
Ps. Anyone here remembers the #harbourchallenge 2014/2015? ;)
