Wow! Bad Dogs is finally out today and there are so many emotions pouring out. A couple years ago when we were heading home from a run of shows the whole van was really inspired to start writing.
What a honor to be able to share these moments with so many special people. Its funny that our first record came together so quick and this one seemed to take forever. There were times during recording where I was on the verge of tears when making Juno, and I wasn’t sure why. hearing d’s guitar part for ‘heart of stone’ for the first time, the way osty’s drums tucked that song into a whole new pocket, hearing shar’s chorus for ‘fire over me - These are things that will stand the test of time.

The Indianapolis hip-hop trio’s sophomore album, with live band accompaniment, is an angelic, gritty, enthralling hymnal for the disillusioned.
their 2021 debut released on 37d03d (pronounced People), Justin Vernon’s label. This Time I’ll Be of Use was praised by Pitchfork for its soulful rap, textured noise, and pensive lyrics.
The whole group is rooted in Indianapolis’s fertile creative soil. The trio’s collaborative history includes the influential Ghost Gun Summer collective and the experimental indie stylings of Grampall Jookabox. Beyond music, they are community champions: Sean (Oreo Jones) co-produces Chreece, the Midwest’s largest hip-hop festival; Niq (Sirius Blvck) advances food justice through the Indy Hunger Network; and Moose Adamson (Sedcairn) shapes experimental releases here at Joyful Noise.
This is a genre-fluid hip-hop record. As with past releases from artists like Swamp Dogg and Yoni & Geti, when we work in hip-hop, we seek out those who are pushing the boundaries of the genre. 81355’s new album is no exception.
Bad Dogs is out now via streaming and on vinyl. Physically, it’s on standard edition “Chocolate Rain” vinyl and VIP edition Blue Smoke vinyl, limited to 400 hand-numbered copies. The VIP package includes a flexi-disc of a bonus track called “All That It Takes,” and a custom 81355 engraved dog collar tag.
