On the day my mom turned 23 she delivered my big brother Giorgio. Iād imagine itās a special thing to share a birthday with your child.
However my momās experience was much different than others. Giorgio was not supposed to live on this day. Before being life flighted they brought a priest in to say his blessings in anticipation of him not making it.
When he miraculously survived they handed my mother (and father) a child that they didnāt know the extent of his brain injury. Each day, each month apparently is just a learning period.
They said he wouldnāt walk, now Giorgio never sits down. They said he wouldnāt talk, now he calls me 7 times before 9 am almost every day š.
I only say this because I donāt think thereās enough grace and respect towards parents of handicapped children. My parents both are very successful EXTREMELY hard working individuals who did it while raising my brother.
I say all that to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my super hero of a mom and my miracle big brother.
I love you more than you know.
