In food manufacturing, surplus is inevitable. Waste doesn’t have to be. Our partnership with L.A. Quality Products has helped rescue nearly 3.2 million pounds of potatoes, carrots and onions to date — proving that imperfect produce still has real value. Produce that may not meet retail standards can still nourish communities. If your business has surplus, we can help: ✔️ Coordinate and simplify the donation process ✔️ Help maximize the value of your excess product ✔️ Deliver it to communities across Canada through our network Better for your business. Better for communities. Better for the planet. Want to make food rescue part of your supply chain? Click the link in bio.

........... "I remember the day we hit 600 [families], everyone stopped and clapped. Now, we're at 1,600." La Bouchée généreuse has a simple mission: to fight poverty. They offer a range of services, from a community thrift store and optician services to their most in-demand program: the food bank. The numbers keep growing because the need keeps growing. But so does their commitment to showing up for their community. Visit their page to learn more.

For many Chinese families, food is where connection begins. For Alfred Lam, executive director at Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (@CICS_canada ), food is central to culture, community and belonging. At CICS, their food bank does more than provide meals — it offers culturally familiar food, preserves traditions and helps newcomers feel at home in a new community. This Asian Heritage Month, we’re sharing their story. Full blog ➡️ link in bio.

Canada has a chance to build a stronger food system. But we can’t ignore food waste. We already produce enough food to feed everyone in this country — yet billions of dollars’ worth of food is thrown away every year. That’s why we’re calling on the federal government to make food waste reduction a core part of Canada’s National Food Security Strategy. It starts with action: ✔ Modernizing best before date labelling ✔ Setting national food waste reduction targets and measure progress ✔ Investing in food infrastructure Read our new Best Before Date Report and join the call for change. Tell your MP: food waste reduction belongs in Canada’s plan. Link in bio.

Food is more than fuel — it’s connection, culture and care. ❤️ This Asian Heritage Month, we’re sharing recipes from our team that carry the stories, traditions and memories of home. Today, we’re spotlighting chả trứng (Vietnamese egg meatloaf), a comforting breakfast dish from our Communications Manager, Giao — a recipe rooted in family and the kind of care that’s passed down through generations. Because food doesn’t just nourish us. It connects us. Tap the link in bio for the full recipe.

Confused by “best before” dates? You’re not alone. In Canada, 23% of avoidable food waste is linked to date coding from processing to purchase — that’s $12.37 billion worth of food thrown away every year. Our new research looks at how countries around the world are improving date coding to reduce food waste. Full report coming soon.

Last week for National Volunteer Week, the team from @McCainglobal joined us at Second Harvest to roll up their sleeves and sort surplus food. And yes — there were potatoes involved. 🥔 Their time helped move more good food to communities across Canada and kept perfectly good food out of landfills. A big thank you to the McCain team for showing up. 💚 #SecondHarvest #FoodWaste #FoodInsecurity #FoodRescue
