Happy Earth Day! 🌍 Today is a powerful reminder that the small, positive actions we take individually can lead to a more sustainable future for everyone.
At Second Chances, we are committed to making clothing a resource that is worn again and again, reducing its environmental impact while supporting our community. Many of us have closets filled with clothes that no longer fit, shoes we've neglected, and accessories we no longer use. Finding these items a new home can be challenging on our own, as local organizations often lack the storage and staff to manage donations, even though they deeply value and need them.
That’s where we come in. For 21 years, Second Chances has been collecting, sorting, and redistributing apparel to local shelter and service organizations, ensuring that clothing reaches those who need it most. This process not only supports folks in our community, but it keeps garments in circulation, helping divert more than 3.5 million pounds of clothing and textiles from landfills.
In the spirit of sustainability, shared impact, and connecting our community, Second Chances is hosting an 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 next Tuesday, April 28 at
@upstairs.at.bow (
@bow.market ) in Union Square, Somerville. Trade in pieces you’re ready to part with, discover new favorites, and celebrate fashion, community, and caring for the planet while raising funds so Second Chances can continue to be a consistent source of empowering, free clothing for our neighbors in need.
There’s still time to join us! Please visit the event page (link in bio) to purchase tickets and learn more about what to expect, what to bring, and where to drop off clothing in advance.
