At the time of my Art Now exhibition at @tate , artists would be filmed for a video interview which was then shown on a monitor in a small room before you entered the main space. Because I'm often suspicious of the relationship between artist and artwork, I wanted do something different so I asked the hypnotherapist I was seeing at the time, Graham Thomas, to answer questions in my place. The ensuing video became a bit of a piece; most people got it and liked it, but it did also create some interesting confusion. Since the video is still up on the Tate's website and YouTube, to this day I get alarmed people sometimes saying things like 'I saw a video with an older guy pretending to be you, you might want to sort it out'.

6 years ago I left New York having installed my commission 'Vauxhall Ever Green' at @hudsonyards . A certain pandemic ensued, meaning that the project was closed to the public almost straight away; it reopened later in the year, ending up being accessible to the public for over 12 months.

Magazines is a song that was started by Seb Patane & Dan Black. I first heard it when their band IVO performed it in 1996. I loved its chorus and the concept of the song and asked Seb if I could work on it for Belvedere Kane.
I added a few new sections and recorded an early version of it with Dan Black at Britannia Row Studios in ‘96.
I’ve always loved this song and I’m so happy it’s now finally out.

In 1992 I came to London for a 6 months stay, before returning to move permanently in 1993. I wrote something about those 6 months: finding a room, a job, studying, being poor, going to gigs and clubs, being at the tail end of my goth phase. I also had the deranged idea of making an audio version of it, which proved extremely difficult; I don't have a problem with my accent, but my pronunciation is often wrong and most disappointingly, no matter how much I tried to record myself reading in an upbeat tone, I sound like I'm constantly on the verge of tears. Oh well. In any case, if you fancy reading or listening to it, both links are in bio. The background music in the audio version is nice tho.
