I’m so excited to announce that I’m hosting a 4-week class on Mythology and Watercolor Painting starting May 11, we meet each Sunday from 2-3PM. Registration link in bio‼️ This class is meant to guide children, adults, and experienced artists, into our unique sensitivities and build confidence in our ability to make images of mystery and inquiry. By learning intuitive image-making techniques we can uncover the mythologies of our subconscious. The class aims at strengthening 4 skills for each student: 1 Form Creation 2 Rendering and Channeling 3 Composition and Subject Relationships 4 Assemblage and Myth-making If you’re into narrative paintings from artists like Diego Rivera, concepts like interdependence, or ancient mythologies this is the class for you!! Please talk to me if you want more info, this class is really meant to help us all grow in the personalized ways we need. Hope to see you there! Best, Seb 🌱

PROPHESY: Joy Futurism In A World Renewing curated by @hamsalefae is a one-week multidisciplinary exhibition from December 13th to 19th, featuring the visionary works of Sebastian Loo, Rino Kodama, Jon Chen, Jenn Ban —fellows of Viet Voices’ second AAPI Emerging Artist Fellowship. Works will express through new media, social practice, installation, and sculpture in partnership with @prebysfound Healing Through the Arts Initiative. In a world renewing itself, who decides what is worth saving, and who is allowed to imagine the future? What becomes possible when the scarcity of time bends, and the future actually informs the past instead of history dictating what comes next? If the practice of collective joy is a form of activism, what manifestations of hope can emerge within it? The Front, 147 W San Ysidro Blvd, San Diego, CA, 92173 @thefrontartecultura Opening Reception // December 13th Doors 4:30pm with cacao @nazdiranaturalremedies Social Engagement 5:00pm Artist Talkback 6pm Dinner 6:30pm @mingounskitchen Closing remarks at 7:30pm Admission: Free + RSVP to reserve a meal & drink TICKETS: /prophecy show poster by @healing.hangin

“Dwelling” made in collaboration with Cen Freedan O., Dominique Go, Jane Shin, Sam Congdon, additional help Suhn Lee, Rino Kodama. Ink and colors on paper cut-out 9 x 9 x 11 ft. “Dwelling” was inspired by the text Dwelling by River, which recorded the lives and shelter building approaches of transient people and communards in the 1970’s. River’s enchanting concept of the constructed domestic space stirred in me a profound necessity to explore the same undertaking. She writes “Dwelling is more than building and living in a house; it is the totality of earth/site/energy/shelter/sky/person. Dwelling is a personal, natural, living relationship with the earth. It feels crucial to begin that relationship clearly; for me this means no less than discovering who I am, in order to know what I want.” These words resonated with interests in self agency, and the symbolic labor in materializing personal dreams. Coincidentally, I was interested in investigating the potential and internal mechanics of collectivist thought and action. I wanted to ask: What creates community? And can the shared labor of alchemizing dreams into reality create and sustain community? @ang5l__ @w0rlddomination @strangejane_ @princess.organ @suhnlee @bread.kiln

The Shaman-Artist mirror effect with @seblooloo Artists wander, harvesting visions in other realms. They share their fruits and truths with us. What is a home but not the karma, conflict, and repair that forms from learning to be together, again and again? Sebastian is the Creative Director of “Dwelling: Collective Dreams of Earth/Site/Energy/Shelter/Sky/Person”, a six person co-hort creating a home together through watercolor and Xuan rice paper. video by @neighborhoodterry

“Art galleries transform into homes, living rooms lay inside. But what is living if not our conflict from karma, resolved. Walk beside me. Eat beside me. Wonder how we can float on top of something already floating. Rock on ocean on air, holding together. To PROPHESY is to believe in the future, but what is the future if not our nowness. Divine inspiration is what makes us laugh, cry, and try again. I can’t believe we get to continue trying.” — curator, @hamsalefae video by @neighborhoodterry featured artists @quantum_friend @bread.kiln @jenn.ban @seblooloo + the “Dwelling” family production @rudimentary.pinay @ratt__trap @heyalissa Special thank you to our collaborators @prebysfound @thefrontartecultura @mingounskitchen @nazdiranaturalremedies

Some Rock and Tree views from “Dwelling.” 山水 painting becoming architecture.. harmony and daoist perceptions of balance becoming material in positive/negative, interpersonal clash/consensus to emerge as community confronting tradition to unlearn + rebuild. Many friends won’t be able to make it tonight, so sharing some views here, if you can though, come by at 4:30 @thefrontartecultura in San Diego We are eager to see you @ang5l__ @strangejane_ @princess.organ @w0rlddomination Rino’s ceramic through the hole in first pic :)
