The intricately pleated cotton voile of the Ruffle shirt is a subtle take on the stripes that intrigue Charles Sébline. The fabric’s airy lightness is contrasted by the opaque white poplin of the ruffle, collar and cuffs.
Philocalist Studio welcomes Sébline for a two-day ephemeral presentation in Madrid.
Rooted in the art of the shirt, timeless essentials are reimagined through a refined, feminine lens — where precision meets ease.
📍 Nicasio Gallego 20 — Madrid
🗓 April 28 & 29
⏰ 11 AM — 8 PM
We look forward to welcoming you. No RSVP required.
MEET THE ARTIST: CHARLES SÉBLINE

“I wanted to return to the essence of the shirt — to purity, to precision, to permanence.” – Charles Sebline
Charles Sebline refines a singular idea: the perfect shirt. Rooted in Parisian couture, his work is a study in cut, proportion, and fabric—where nothing is excessive, and every detail matters.
Trained within some of Paris’ most influential maisons, Sebline shaped his vision working alongside leading fashion houses such as Saint Laurent before launching his own label. This experience informs his precise and uncompromising approach to design.
His signature is elevated simplicity. Timeless silhouettes that move between masculine and feminine, structure and ease—crafted in France with an exacting eye for detail.

A big thank you dear @frederiquededet for inviting me to discuss why the codes of menswear are always a source of inspiration in the editorial for the latest edition of @lesechosserielimitee « spécial design & le style masculin». If fashion is a social barometer then in these uncertain times we need clothes that will last and protect us.

Why don’t you wear a smoking shirt with a pleated bib in almond green satin...?
A tongue-in-cheek play on a classic, the Pleated Smoking Shirt mixes traditional cotton poplin with a silk satin.
What a major thrill to see it worn by Queen Rania of Jordan.
The embroidery of the Marocaine Painter’s Shirt doesn’t simply embellish… the stitch work, a traditional Berber technique, literally constructs the shirt – assembling the panels, whilst outlining the seams, bringing together the decorative and the functional.
Two years ago Charles Sébline began collaborating with a women’s cooperative located in the lower Atlas mountains in Morocco. This technique, called RT, has been passed on through generations - it is mastered by only a few of the embroiderers at the cooperative, all of them members of the same family.
Collaborating with these highly skilled artisans is humbling on a human level as well as creatively enriching. Through this work we play a small part in helping women in this isolated mountain community to become financially independent. Each shirt is the fruit of an exchange which celebrates craft and brings together different cultures.
