ZURNA RAVE. 03.03 2026
I grew up hearing the zurna echoing in Wedding Halls.
My upcoming Track is a hommage - blending traditional zurna with rave energy and microtonal scales that donât fit into the usual 12 notes.
Out on 03.03

Where does knowledge speak from?
A key concept from my teachings at the Academy of fine Arts in Vienna @akbild - âLocus of Enunciationâ by Walter Mignolo. Here is what it means.

Musical intervals come from physics.
Ratios like 3:2, 5:4, 4:3 exist in the harmonic series and they stay the same no matter where you start. Thatâs a physical law.
But tuning A to 440 Hz as the standard pitch?
Thatâs not physics. Thatâs a decision.
The modern A440 (pitch standard) didnât just âhappenââit was standardized in the 20th century, with a key moment at a 1939 London conference tied to broadcasting and international power structures.
In other words: The relationships between notes are natural. The note we choose to anchor everything to⌠isnât.
I took the HĂźseyni makam and wrote a Techno Track.
HĂźseyni doesnât fit neatly inside 12-TET - and thatâs the point.
And my song âHĂźseyinâ drops in Mayđ§żâ¤ď¸

Your ears can hear hundreds of pitches within one octave.
Psychoacoustic research on Just Noticeable Differences (JNDs) shows that humans can distinguish hundreds of pitch differences within a single octave.
So why would you use only 12?
If you want to go deeper into this, comment âHEARâ
And lâll send you the full article.
Your brain wasnât born hearing octaves.
Research shows that octave equivalence isnât universal â itâs shaped by musical experience. Read more on my @substack
The semester at @akbild is starting, and Iâll be sharing more of my research on decolonial approaches to electronic music here. âşď¸
