Built a typeface so tied to geometry it breaks itself: forms collapsing, letters bending, readability slipping.
Somewhere between system and chaos, it found its voice.

I designed this font in 2020 for my Master Thesis. I explored how to use social distancing measurements from the COVID-19 pandemic for the design process of a typeface. CONTACTLESS is a speculative typeface that limits language according to distance constraints and intends to represent the resulting human interactions through its visual characteristics. It is a variable font with dramatically long serifs that keep characters apart from each other. The serifs also hide / bend / enclose as the characters get closer. Words related to closeness and contact get crossed automatically thanks to Opentype-features.
