Every part of the Landing Boat Shoe is built with intention.
Since 1937, @vibram has been perfecting high-performance rubber soles known for precision, durability, comfort, and traction. The iconic yellow octagon is a global symbol of innovation in footwear, which is why we are proud to feature Vibram’s Wave Grip compound outsole on our Landing Boat Shoe, bringing trusted performance to a classic silhouette.
What would SeaVees shoes have looked like across the decades while the brand was shut down? It’s a game our designers love to play. Here are some of our favorite archive-inspired styles imagined then, brought to life now.
“I swore I’d never make another boat shoe.
But when I found this old prototype from 2006, it intrigued me. Could I design a boat shoe I would actually wear? And so it began. Manipulating proportions and eliminating pattern pieces led way to slightly exaggerating the eyelet size and skip-lace width. Adding a tonal outsole suddenly emphasized the depth and character of the leather. After a few iterations, I realized I was making something that lived between a boat shoe and a loafer.
Along the way the pursuit had become deeply personal. Maybe it’s the shoe, maybe it’s returning to the first factory I ever worked at. Either way, I was all in.
So much so that when it came to planning the creative direction for this project, I reluctantly - and against better senses - volunteered to be the face of the campaign. To be the face of a shoe I swore I’d never make, let alone wear again? Well, here we are.
The Landing Boat Shoe."

A West Coast reimagining of a classic. Based on a forgotten prototype known affectionately as “The Lost Boat Shoe,” this very limited edition style was developed and produced in Maine with @quoddymaine , where the SeaVees Founder and CEO, @steven_tiller , began his career. Crafted from premium Made in the USA Horween leather, this style features a custom two-piece upper pattern, true moccasin construction, hand-stitching, and a @Vibram non-marking wave-grip sole.
A full-circle moment 30 years in the making. Last year when I ran across a discarded boat shoe prototype from when I first started SeaVees, I knew exactly where to go to bring it to life. The factory in Lewiston, Maine where I began my career in the mid 90s. Now owned by Quoddy, they are still crafting some of the best handsewn shoes in the world. Horween leather, Vibram outsole, and a custom 2 piece upper pattern handsewn on the wood using genuine moccasin construction. Finally. The Landing Boat Shoe completes its long journey home.
I’ve always cared about where things come from.
The history behind them.
So when @seavees asked me to tell the story of this shoe, I went back, into the archives, to understand why it’s one of the originals.
