Hey Dad, I can't believe it's been 10 years to the day since we said goodbye. I think about you almost every day.
If we could talk today, I'd tell you that we're all doing okay and I think you'd be proud of what we've done with and the people we've found to include in our lives.
I'd hold your hand and reassure you that all the work, sacrifice, pain, and uncertainty you put yourself through for your family paid off. That we're all on our own exciting adventures.
I'd buy you a bowl of noodles and tell you to get the appetizers and an extra serving of meat - because I can afford to buy the occasional nice meal now - and joke, but not really, about learning how to dream ambitiously and fantastically from you.
I'd surprise you with a pack of your favorite cigarettes and smoke one with you before hugging you for too long and thanking you for being the best dad. And then I'd whisper to you that mom once said you were an "A+ father."
Then before heading to the airport, I'd say goodbye and tell you that I'm flying first class back to New York City today (and also unsuccessfully explain how points work) because I wanted to remember you in style. And that I think you'd be excited and proud to know that your kid is doing well enough to splurge for something like this on special occasions.
I miss you so much and am so thankful I got to have you as a dad. You were the best. I love you.
