Fowler College of Business was proud to serve as the host school and co-sponsor of the 2026 SHRM California HR Student Case Competition, welcoming 21 student teams from 10 universities to San Diego State University.
Participants tackled a real-world HR challenge, presenting their solutions to a panel of industry professionals while strengthening their skills in ethical decision-making, communication, and problem-solving.
Congratulations to all teams, including SDSU’s undergraduate team for earning second place, and to faculty advisor Michelle Dean. Special recognition to SHRM SDSU student leaders Tamar Hazon, Leann David, and Jorge Cortez, whose yearlong planning made this event possible.

More than 35 years after taking Marketing 370 at SDSU, alumna Charo Mouritzen returned to campus to thank the professor who helped shape her career. Marketing lecturer Lois Olson’s lesson on qualitative research influenced Charo’s professional path and continues to resonate decades later.
That influence now spans generations. Charo’s son Ryan is currently a Fowler marketing student learning from Olson in the same class. From alumni to current students, her commitment to teaching has shaped careers, inspired curiosity, and created lasting connections that define the Aztec experience.
