On November 6, 2025, the San Diego Community Wealth Building Coalition held its second coalition event @woo.sandiego . The event was emceed by Adria Fox @c4gszedlife , and catered with delicious food by United Women of East Africa @uweast1 . We had a great turnout and attendees witnessed a summary of the Coalition’s progress by Dr. Josh Newton @cityjoshnewton , followed by group discussions on how to best push for our community wealth building resolution. We have accomplished a lot since the Coalition’s formation and we look forward to the passing of our resolution in the year ahead! Please be on the lookout for our upcoming workshops on community wealth building institutions in the coming months. Also, if you haven’t already, please reach out to your councilmember to ask for their support for our resolution. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to get involved or would like us to present on our resolution and community wealth building institutions.

On August 20th, 2025, the San Diego Community Wealth Building Coalition held its first coalition event @woostudios_sd . The event was emceed by Adria Fox @c4gszedlife , was hosted by Patrick Shields from WOO Studios, and catered with delicious food by United Women of East Africa @uweast1 . We had an amazing turnout and attendees witnessed inspiring presentations from Kim Frink @suncoastmarket , Casey & Andrea @foodshed.coop , and Goyo Ortiz @casa.familiar (Avanzando San Ysidro Community Land Trust). Presentation on community wealth-building institutions were followed by a discussion on how to best push worker, housing, agricultural, and grocery cooperatives, as well as community land trusts, forward. Community wealth-building institutions have a proven track record of creating good jobs, affordable housing, sustainable food systems, and local economic growth that helps residents stay in their communities. To expand their impact in San Diego, we need supportive policies and funding to help them grow and thrive. Long-term trends in this country are troubling, we have a national housing crisis, an environmental crisis, and a crisis in our democracy. The policies, institutions, and systems that brought us here will not be the ones to get us out of the situation we find ourselves in. Although times seem dark, another world is possible! Join us and let’s set about creating that world! Please reach out to us at [email protected]. #community #landtrust #worker #coops #cooperatives #housing #food #grocery #agriculture #democracy #communitypower #socialjustice #communitywealth #communitylandtrust #sandiego #sdcwb #buildingsystems
