MFS transitions that create fall-rate changes, like sit to belly, require patience.
The higher person must watch and wait for the perfect millisecond to transition or else the levels will remain off.
First:
Practice the timing without thinking about “the catch”
Next:
Begin incorporating a strong presentation like Joey does here. He goes to belly with his arms out so Lindsay has something to aim for.
Hot tip: don’t forget about your legs, or you’ll just backslide.
Don’t ask us how we know😂

✈️ Meet the Team: SDC MatriX
2-Way Mixed Formation Skydiving Open
📅 At SDC: Formed in 2021 (originally as "Ew, Joey")
🪂 Team jumps: 20,000+ combined (1,400+ MFS together)
🥇 Known for: High-energy fun, being the second longest-running MFS team, and championing the creation of the Intermediate MFS division.
Who they are:
Joey, Lindsay, and Fener—a trio that proves you can be serious about competition without taking yourself too seriously. They are the driving force behind growing the MFS community and making the discipline accessible to more jumpers.
Vibe:
Think "80’s Roller Skating Jams." They bring a low-pressure, light-hearted, and occasionally chaotic energy to every event. Whether they pulling mid-air sunglasses heists or giving out surprise prize dildos at events, they keep the "fun" in fun-jumper.
What sets them apart:
They train right in the heart of the dropzone, packing for themselves and hanging with friends on the mats between loads. It’s the authentic, exhausting, and super-fun "traditional" skydiver experience.
Favorite moment:
Winning Gold in Advanced at the 2022 USPA Nationals. The team sat geared up in the loading area for an hour, refusing to back down, racing a massive storm to get the final round in right at sunset.
Team mindset:
"Strategic, Supportive, Silly." They navigate the challenges of three very different brains by taking the extra time to ensure everyone understands the dive in their own way.
Behind the scenes:
If you see them on the plane, watch out for the (very questionable) team handshake. If Fener isn't sitting nearby, don't be surprised if Joey asks you to fill in. IYKYK.
DZ fuel:
Ice cream from GSG!
Favorite part of competition day:
The ride to altitude for Round 1—holding hands and feeling that unmatched nervous energy as all the hard work is put to the test.
If you had to pick a movie title that describes your training season, what would it be?
A mix between Dumb and Dumber and Bring it On

A blast from the past with this totem. 🫠 Totem was chopped from the MFS dive pool at the end of the 2024 season.
Mixed Formation Skydiving has evolved SO much in the 6 years we’ve been active with it and even more over the 12 years of its existence.
Sure - Totem looks cool (especially with our custom, coordinating @uptvector rigs stacked and shimmering in the light like that).
And yeah, it’s kind of fun — but it’s an awkward move that’s difficult for the judges to see, and it disrupts any flow you may have in a jump sequence.
Did you know👇🏽

🪂 New Toy 🪂
While the first rule of any parachute is to get you to the ground safely, you can also have fun along the way. And of course look good while doing it.
Joey got to open a late Birthday present with his new Leia. Consistent soft opening with range to get back from long spots is the main things Joey looks for in his Leia. But the responsiveness and power is what makes him excited for canopy flight.
If you are a more conservative canopy pilot like Lindsay but still want that extra pep, then the Crossfire 3 is for you.
Bottom line is Jyro has a canopy for you no matter what your flying style is.
Thank you @flyjyro for your continued support. We love flying our Jyro canopies.

The 2026 season is ramping up - and we’re curious who’s out there training?
We’d love to know who’s forming teams, who’s training for Nationals in September and Cloud Games in June!
2024 was a stellar year with 19 MFS teams at Nationals here at Skydive Chicago.
We’d love to see a turn out like that again this year!
How’s it going?
How can we help?
We are genuinely interested in keeping MFS growing.

☀️ MatriX MFS Monday 🥹
Well this wraps up our winter training down in Sebastian. This winter went by way too fast. But we looking forward to getting back home to Skydive Chicago and get the season going there.
Thank you so much to Skydive Sebastian for their continued support of our silly little team. We could not ask for a better place to call home for the winter.
Thanks to the Zoo Bar for always keeping the DZ hydrated and fed.
And of course thanks to all the jumpers that we got to share the sky with this winter. See you all next winter season!

☀️ Weekend LO and things 🏝️
Joey had another busy weekend this time at home at Skydive Sebastian. He had the opportunity to do lots of different types of jumps.
He started the weekend with Sam redeeming some of her coach jumps she won at the MatriX Scrambles back in February. She saw huge progress in the three jumps that they go to do.
Joey even got some tummy FS jumps with some of the locals and the local LO Jake. Lots of fun was had also turned about 18 points in a 4 way FS belly jump!
Sunday funday was all about LOing. Joey got to mix it up leading angle jumps and also getting a few Freefly jumps in too.
Thanks everyone who came out last weekend. Join Nick Fener for some more of the same this weekend!!
