When faced with a moment that no one should have to endure, Mary (Nally) Ternan ’83 and Ed Ternan ’83 leaned into the values that brought them together in the first place: family, Ignatian principles, and shared Bronco spirit. After the tragic loss of their son, Charlie Ternan ’20, to a counterfeit pill laced with fentanyl, Mary and Ed chose to act. Together, they founded @Song4Charlie to raise fentanyl awareness among teenagers. Their work made Song for Charlie a national voice in youth drug awareness, and they continue to help save lives. In 2023, Grace (Zimmerman) Holmes ’18 and Evan Holmes ’18 brought their Santa Clara love story full circle when they recreated their first date by sharing Benson sandwiches beside the Bronco statue. Grace didn’t know, at the time, that the day would become even more meaningful: later that day, Evan proposed in Monterey!
Their story started in 2017 at an off-campus game night right. Grace was just back from studying abroad in India and Evan had just transferred to Santa Clara. The rest is history!
They tied the knot in Sept. 2025, surrounded by SCU friends and family and celebrating in true Bronco fashion!
We want to hear your story! Share it with us and become part of our Bronco Meet Cute series: [link in bio]
Rehearsing an opera is one thing. Rehearsing it with the composer in the room is something else entirely.
Jessica Jacoby ’27 and Nathan Tu ’27 had the rare chance to work alongside Guggenheim Fellow Nicolás Lell Benavides ’10 to bring Tres minutos to life, a chamber opera inspired by the realities of family separation at the U.S.–Mexico border.
As part of the Frank Sinatra Series, Benavides returned to Santa Clara University, the place where his journey in classical music began.
For these students, the experience went beyond performance. It was about collaboration, storytelling, and engaging with art that reflects the world around us.
