Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse (2025) is a Malayalam-language mystery comedy-thriller directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon in his Malayalam debut and starring Mammootty as the titular character. Produced by Mammootty’s own banner Mammootty Kampany, the film premiered in theaters on 23 January 2025 and blends humour, investigation, and emotional depth in a single narrative.
The story follows Dominic, a once-respected police officer whose career has since faded, leaving him to work as a private detective in Kochi. Struggling with finances and pride, Dominic is offered a simple deal by his landlady: find the owner of a lost ladies’ purse and he won’t have to pay rent. What begins as a seemingly ordinary task slowly unfolds into something far more complex and unsettling.
As Dominic digs deeper, he uncovers a web of disappearance, surveillance, and hidden identities that connects the tiny purse to darker mysteries involving missing people, secret pasts, and unexpected truths. Alongside his assistant, he follows clues from CCTV footage, travel records, and old relationships, discovering that nothing is quite as it first seemed.
The film’s charm lies in its mix of light-hearted humour and tense investigation, brought to life by Mammootty’s understated performance and Menon’s stylish approach to character-driven storytelling. While critics and audiences gave it mixed to positive reviews for its engaging mystery and Mammootty’s screen presence, some felt the pacing and scripting could have been stronger.
