Last summer I spent a week in a cottage in the Dales with two of my good pals @ben.filmer.sankey and @willallenmusic . In between going to the pub and eating tasty food we recorded an album of traditional music.
Most of the tunes are from London and the Yorkshire Dales, played as we would play them at home or in a session. Nowt fancy just good tunes.
We're launching the record next week at Heath Street Baptist Church, London. We'll also be playing it out at a couple of festivals this summer. The album is available to buy on Bandcamp through @scriberecords

On 22nd April we will be launching our album, Sun in the Sands, at Heath Street Baptist Church. Itās been brewing for a while since we recorded it last June with Rowan @scriberecords and itās exciting to finally share it.
Itās an album of trad English tunes, played in the way we play together at sessions. More posts incoming.

Weāre Old Spot ā Rowan Piggott and Joe Danks. We appeared on the scene in 2023 with our debut album and a whirlwind UK tour, and it didnāt take long before we realised how special this project was becoming. From small clubs to folk, bluegrass, and old-time festivals across the UK and Europe, weāve been lucky to share our music with audiences whoāve connected deeply with our energy and enthusiasm for traditional music.
We recorded this album ourselves at Heriot Toun Studio, carting vintage gear and beautiful ribbon mics across the countryside to hole up for a few days of creativity. Apart from covering the cost of the space, we need your help to pay for ongoing production costs ā mastering, duplicating the CDs, pressing the vinyl, and having enough t-shirts ready for our launch tour! Any contributions beyond our initial target will help with our PR to get the music to a wider audience. The album will release to the general public on 24th April 2026, but you have the opportunity to hear it a bit earlier by supporting this crowdfunding campaign! There are different reward tiers for digital/CD/vinyl copies and you have the option to add on our first album, t-shirt or tunebook after selecting. (Kickstarter link in bio)

Spent some time recording Will Allen (fiddle/viola) and Becci Pamely (church organ) this week! The result is an album that inhabits a soundscape of old England when common melodies were sung in church and then played down the pub afterwards. A popular folk tune would be commandeered for a hymn or a hymn tune would become a rousing chorus to a bawdy ballad. The instrument pairing is exquisite and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much a I have!
