Fans of Derry Girls will instantly recognise these familiar faces ... but did you know that several of its stars have also filmed productions right here in Malta? 🎬
✨ Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who played Erin Quinn, filmed scenes for the comedy-thriller How to Get to Heaven from Belfast in Malta (2026).
✨ Dylan Llewellyn, the iconic James Maguire, visited Malta while building his career beyond Derry Girls, including his starring role in the Channel 4 sitcom Big Boys (2022–2025).
✨ Nicola Coughlan, known as Clare Devlin in Derry Girls and Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton, filmed the musical fantasy The Magic Faraway Tree in Malta (releasing 2026).

Today marks the birthday of Aaron Eckhart, ⭐ star of the action-thriller Classified, filmed in Malta.
Classified 🎞️ was released on video on demand by @sonypictures on October 22, 2024. These images 📸 take us back to the 2023 shoot, when the production, also starring Tim Roth and Abigail Breslin, spent 20 days filming across the islands.
Executive Producer Gabriel Georgiev had praised 🇲🇹 Malta’s versatile locations, strong crew base, and 💶 competitive cash rebate programme, calling the island “a solid proposition” for international productions.
🎬 On This Day: March 11, 1983
The action-comedy Trenchcoat premiered in theatres all over America. Directed by Michael Tuchner and starring Margot Kidder and Robert Hays, the film follows a #mystery writer ✍️ who travels to #malta to work on her first novel … only to get caught up in a real-life plot involving plutonium smugglers.
Produced by Jerry Leider for Walt Disney Productions, the project was originally developed under the working title 🇲🇹 Malta Wants Me Dead.
Filming took place across Malta, including Valletta, Mdina, and Rabat, featuring landmarks such as Ħaġar Qim and St. Paul’s Catacombs.
This ✨ Women’s Day week, we celebrate just some of the powerful women on screen who shaped the stories we love …all filmed right here on the 🇲🇹 Maltese Islands.
