Cinema Lusso @cinemalusso has received the Cedia EMEA award this year for the best Home Cinema room in category 1 and best lighting design at the same time.
This has been achieved by Ben Goff and his team, who built this stunning room on a tight budget.
This Cedia EMEA award was granted to a cinema room equipped with both Audio Excellence and Screen Excellence's products as main components.
While the main focus of this installation was the aesthetics (and what a success!), the client was very invested in the audio performances and was interested in a system having outstanding dynamics and bass response. A Home Cinema's sound system first and foremost goal should always be to render faithfully the movie's original soundtrack, it should provide an immersive audio experience, allowing viewers to fully suspend disbelief and be transported to the world created by the director. An additional request of the client's was that the sound system's performance remains of the same quality all around the listening area.
The system that Ben selected for delivering the expected high level of audio performance is the Audio Excellence Vertex 2, completed by the Raijuu 1 bass extension subwoofers. 6 x Vertex 1 were also used for the surround sound field. An Audio Excellence Quattro 06 feeds the front Vertex 2 and Raijuu 1, the other channels being handled by the Anthem AVR.
The Vertex 2 are located behind an A.T. projection screen, a Screen Excellence Discovery of 100 inches base width.
A thoroughly calibrated SIM 2 projector provides an imaging up to the highest standard attained by this installation.
Creating this room during the Covid-19 Pandemic created its own technical challenges that Ben handled with creativity, and an engineer living on site during part of the works!

ONLY 2 cm FROM THE SPEAKERS !
It’s a beautiful home cinema installation. A cosy atmosphere. Seats are heavenly comfortable. The acoustics is perfect. High-end loudspeakers will make you believe your are in the movie you’re watching or the concert you are listening to. An acoustically transparent screen behind which you can hide the speakers for optimum sound coherence and aesthetics that is… not so much acoustically transparent ? It needs to be at least 10 inches away from the front of the speakers or it will ruin their sound ? The room’s plans need to be reconsidered, we have much less space than originally planned ? Really?
Think, everything was going so well…
Yes, more often than not, the screen needs to be located to have its back as far away as 25 to 35 cm of distance from the speakers front. At least, this is what most screens manufacturers strongly suggest anyway.
Why is that?
Because the acoustic transparency of the screen is… not so good ?
You certainly are aware of real estate’s prices, and so are your clients. Very acutely so, I’d bet.
Now, here is a simple calculation :
(0.25 m x Screenwidth x Real estate sq.m price) = Well, this is a very, very expensive screen !
This issue should certainly not be your clients problem, nor yours. The performance of a product is the manufacturer’s responsibility. At Screen Excellence we take that at heart.

This impressive installation by DSI Luxury Technology is from a Spec Home in Beverly Hills. The house was designed by Mark Rios of RCH Studios and is entirely Savant-controlled.
Its theater room features a huge, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, 170-inch-wide acoustically transparent screen from Seymour-Screen Excellence, and it looks overall absolutely stunning.

In order to achieve the exact framing for up to three aspect ratios, the True Aspect Masking 1 screen offers a top drop-down motorized mask.
The width of the viewing area remains constants whilst the height can vary to match the required aspect ratio.
The main projection axis can be adjusted by programming the projector vertical lens shift according to the corresponding mask position.This provides a projection surface that is constantly and accurately bordered with black edges, enhancing the contrast and a real focus on the image.
The TAM 1 is built from the same frame as the REFERENCE series (9.4 cm wide, 3.7”). A small increment in depth hides the motor assembly- the total depth being 135 mm (5.3”).
