I’ve been under the weather lately so next week will likely be a smaller update as well, although the long awaited latest batch from Angst should finally be landing. Apologies for any/all delayed responses, too. Capping off this week with a grip of ~50 second hand grind and metal tapes, up in the shop now.

New Arrivals 325: Grubenwehr Freiburg, Hospital Productions, MSDO, Reanimated Miscarriage, Ultra Sound Probe Transducer + Shadow Pattern (ON), Duncan Harrison (UK), Rory Salter (UK) and Robert Fuchs (US) in Montreal this Wednesday! The technical issue with the broker for US packages is ongoing, but packages are beginning to make it through, meaning there are some nice new arrivals for this week. More en route, as always! During the week there were some issues with orders where PayPal was the selected payment type, but the issue seems to be resolved. It came as the result of a botched update to the PayPal payment gateway plugin. If you continue to have trouble or notice anything weird during (or after) checkout, please let me know. A Ticket section has been added. This will become most useful when Initial Shock IV is announced next week. Accessible via More > Tickets, or via the Initial Shock menu page.

Shop overhaul! + Death Is A Drummer, Dunkelheit, FAB Press, Helicopter, Narcolepsia, New Approach, Obsessive Fundamental Realism, Old Europa Cafe, Rude Fans, Shaking Box Music, Spectacular Optical, Steep Gloss, Troniks Catching up on this week's update after a power outage prevented regular Sunday posting. The overhaul of site categories is more or less complete. Beyond main category updates there are new filtering additions (format, condition, style, etc.), as well as artist and label browsing pages. This comes after a lot of work streamlining things behind the scenes as well. Now the site is quite powerful, has become more scalable and should be much better to navigate. Less reliance on the search bar means no more battles with its pesky treatment of terms, and hopefully things that have been long buried in the nether pages of the catalog can find some life again. As the changes are quite numerous I’ve listed all updates (that I can recall) in a changelog at the bottom of the website version of this post. See how you can now take advantage of the site. If you run into any issues or spot any bugs, please let me know. As far as changes to the newsletter go: New (and Second Hand) Arrivals are now split by category. The posts are also authored by “screamandwrithe” instead of just “admin”. Unfortunately it’s based on site username and I can’t force it to be “Scream & Writhe” proper. And a minor apology to everyone who reads this via email, as the entire content of last week’s update was inadvertently put behind a “Read More” marker. The content is intended to be readily available and not merely to generate clicks (although it did bring a nice number of visits to the site… Good to know folks do indeed read this!). The technical issue with the broker for US packages is ongoing. A package from Helicopter finally made it through for this week’s update, but there are plenty more still waiting to land including packages from Andromache, Gathering Wool, Hospital, MSDO, Reanimated Miscarriage, Sound Probe and more. If they all land next week it will make for a pretty substantial update given the other international packages that are expected to arrive in the meantime.

New Arrivals 323: Discreet Music, Ferns Recordings, Fönstret, Fourth Dimension Records, Marhaug Forlag, New Forces Site categories have been revamped, and will likely be going through further revisions while I make things more streamlined and scalable. Those using RSS product feeds will have to update their feed URLs (perhaps more than once, sorry). New/Used items are now grouped by default, and you can toggle if you’d rather see one or the other via the sidebar. After the music-related categories are locked in I will work on cleaning up the book section. To that, some titles from Spectacular Optical (CA) and FAB Press (UK) will be in stock soon (one Spectacular Optical book in stock as of now). There has been a technical issue with the broker for US packages, so the latest from Helicopter, MSDO, and some Hospital items originally due for this week have been delayed. Hopefully those (and others) will be in for next week. A handful of second hand grind/metal tapes have been added, with more to come before long. There will be a show with Shadow Pattern (ON), Duncan Harrison (UK), Rory Salter (UK) and Robert Fuchs (US) in Montreal on April 1st at Casa del Popolo. Poster below. Other shows happening in April, May and June will be fully announced shortly. Initial Shock IV will take place July 3-5. The lineup is complete and a full announcement will be made early April.

New Arrivals 320: Blast Addict, Fusty, Intellect Books, Lake Shark Harsh Noise, Tenebrae, Total Black, Zombi Danz Records Shock Factory, Nicolas Ballet’s major tome on “The Visual Culture of Industrial Music” is finally in stock. Copies are limited, and it has a high cover price due to being an academic press. The new (last?) Worth tape has also landed, along with other new arrivals and restocks from Total Black. Plus more noise arrivals, grind mania from Blast Addict, and a grip from one of the best underground metal labels of recent times, Zombi Danz. Anticipating next week to be a major one in terms of new noise arrivals—if the postal gods allow for it!
