One year ago today was my kidney transplant. Current status: Both guys doing great!! May the whole world one day be as giving and kind and courageous as @chrisjones7193 Thank you man. Let’s all keep giving and loving; we got some shit to get through together! We can do it ❤️😷
Dear Each and Every One of You,
Well, it’s been a heck of a journey since May 16th, 2018, the day I was unexpectedly diagnosed with end stage renal disease. It’s been an even more incredible journey since my kidney transplant just over 9 weeks ago! My body has recovered from the surgery itself and now it is slowly and unevenly learning to adjust to my new organ. It’s going to be awhile before things are fully stable, but so far so good. The climb back is hilly, a bit rocky, but steady. My body and my new kidney seem to weather whatever is thrown our way. For this I am grateful to the gods!
But most of all, I am beyond grateful to all of you. In an instant, you all showed up to willingly donate an organ, to drive, sit with me during dialysis, donate funds, visit during all hours of the day and night, hold my hand, hold my heart, pray, and to bring over all sorts of treasures! Through it all, you gave me love, laughter, levity, life. You gave me your strength. Most miraculously, you gave me hope. Each and every one of you are gods and goddesses, my angel warriors.
You, we, are a community made up of equal parts courage, delight and beautiful strength. What a gift; what a family!
Finally, I would like to say thank you to Chris Jones, the man who delivered me a big healthy life-thumping beast of a kidney! Chris, you are a King among men and a hero of my life. Thank you for showing up with such love and power in the way that only you can do. I will live a vital and courageous life as a life-long honoring of this most precious gift you have given me.
