An old one, because I’ve been thinking about tenderness a lot recently.

Opening Thursday, Feb 20th 6-9 PM A solo exhibition by @scottcamp “Touched by light or” is a collection of drawings, images, and objects made in response to the journey of searching for something. While previous work touched on themes of defensiveness, and found their formal inspiration in gates, shields, and other protective mechanisms and materials, this offering is instead interested in spaces where that kind of armor might no longer be necessary. What methods and tools would one use to find such a place? What are the trail markers, and who are the spirit guides, that can lead one to their people? Concepts of frequency and transmission are presented alongside portals, and images of flight and escape in this exhibition. The rubbings are small, metaphorical journeys themselves; each one an exercise in searching for and recording the contours, nuances, and textures of a surface. #touchedbylightor #exhibition #opening #scottvincentcampbell #mcontemporaryart

Check out some of these sweet pieces currently up on our auction site! Don’t miss your chance to take home some of these one of a kind art pieces in support of PMI! (🔗 in bio) Our Online Auction will close on November 2, 11:59 PM CST. Explore works donated by some of our favorite PMI-affiliated artists and staff, and learn more about each of them below ✨ Jina Valentine ( @jina.valentine ) is a mother, visual artist, and educator. Her practice is informed by traditional craft techniques and interweaves histories latent within found texts, objects, narratives, and spaces. Jina’s work involves language translation, mining content from material and digital archives, and experimental strategies for humanizing data-visualization(…) Aaron Hughes ( @aarhughes ) is an artist, curator, organizer, anti-war activist, and Iraq War veteran. Working through an interdisciplinary practice rooted in drawing and printmaking, Hughes works collaboratively to create meaning out of personal and collective trauma, transform systems of oppression, and seek liberation(…)  Scott Vincent Campbell’s ( @scottcamp ) artistic practice explores the emotional, psychological, and social conditions created by observation/surveillance. He uses a slash here quite deliberately in order to allude to the slippery line between the two acts. Expressed through themes such as visibility, defensiveness, and construction, he is particularly invested in how our intrapersonal relationship and very sense of self is influenced and mediated by the way others perceive us(…) Stephen Eichhorn ( @stepheneichhorn ) (b. 1984, United States) lives and works in Chicago. He has had solo exhibitions at the Franklin Park Conservatory, Elmhurst Art Museum and the Chicago Athletic Association(…) ——— Let’s Co Prosper: 2024 Auction 🗓️October 23rd, at Co-Prosperity 3219 S Morgan📍 🌙✨Join us for a night of camaraderie, commiseration, celebration, and cooperation all in support of the spaces that keep opportunities open for local artists, like the ones featured here! Been a special summer so far🤗❤️ Too many folks to tag here, but just know I’m grateful to all y’all🙏🏾 Repost from @curatorsintl • To mark the one-year anniversary of ICI's Chicago office, we celebrated with alumni, supporters, and friends at Mariane Ibrahim Gallery earlier this month. Collaboration and creating intentional space to gather has always been key to our success, and this event was a wonderful a way to say thank you to all of the people who have made our work in Chicago possible! Special thanks to Board Member Chris Wise for helping make this event possible, and to Mariane Ibrahim, Emma McKee, and the entire gallery staff for all of the support and always opening their doors to us. We can't wait to build on the foundation that we created in this incredible city over the past decade; here's to year two of our physical Chicago outpost, and the entire Mississippi River Basin initiative! Our Chicago Curatorial Seminar is back! Emerging, Chicago-based, BIPOC curators are invited to apply for this FREE professional development program, taking place from September to December 2023. The 8-session Seminar brings together 6-8 emerging curators for discussions led by ICI staff, guest curators, artists, and other arts professionals, as well as individual advisement, shared reading, and suggested in-person site visits. Further, participants will workshop a project or exhibition proposal as they continue to develop the tools necessary to establish a strong first-person approach to curating, support overlooked artists, and engage with local art communities while working outside of a large institution. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Curatorial Seminar seeks to create an affirming network of peers around shared values, and will offer the participants an opportunity to gain knowledge and resources through ICI’s network, share ideas outside of often-monolithic institutional structures, and think through developments in their own curatorial practice. Learn more and apply at the link in bio! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #CuratorsIntl #ICIOpportunities #ICIChicago #ChicagoSeminar
