One of the most influential experiences of my life. You learned real quick there that standards mattered. Expectations mattered. Discipline mattered. Nobody cared about your excuses, your feelings that day, or whether you “felt like it.” You showed up on time. You stood tall. You respected the people around you. You earned your place.
Honestly, I think that’s what’s missing in a lot of today’s world. We’ve lowered the bar so damn far that basic discipline now gets mistaken for being “too hard.” Accountability is looked at like punishment. Standards are viewed as optional.
They’re not optional.
Standards create leaders. Standards build confidence. Standards create trust. Standards forge toughness when life gets uncomfortable and life WILL get uncomfortable. The people who win in life usually aren’t the most talented. They’re the ones who hold themselves to a higher expectation long after everyone else starts making excuses.
That experience taught me something I still carry with me today: If you want a strong life, you better build strong standards. Because weak expectations create weak people. Strong expectations create men and women capable of handling hard things and the world desperately needs more of that again.
FAMILY!!! That’s what Flip My Life was built on from day one.
John and I aren’t just business partners. We’re cousins and long before there was a company, products, or a community, there was family. There were conversations about wanting more for the people we love. Wanting to help people feel better, age better, and show up better for the people depending on them.
At the end of the day, what’s the point of success if your health is falling apart and you don’t have the energy to truly be present with your family? That’s why this mission means so much to us. We believe family needs to become the focus again in today’s society. More dinners together. More walks together. More conversations. More laughing. More memories. Respect. Manners. Awareness. Accountability. The simple things that used to matter.
Say please.
Say thank you.
Look people in the eye.
Hold the door.
Show respect.
Carry yourself with some damn class.
We’ve become way too comfortable with rudeness, entitlement, and lack of consideration for others and people are starting to normalize it. People interrupt instead of listening. They demand instead of appreciate. They speak without thinking, react without patience, and carry themselves like the world owes them something.
Basic respect has started to disappear and somehow bad behavior gets brushed off as “just how people are now.” NO!!That’s weak character being accepted as normal. We don’t need more arrogance, attitude, and self-centeredness. We need more awareness, accountability, gratitude, and respect for the people around us.

Pause: How are you showing up around other people every day?
Decide: Decide that character still matters, even when society lowers the bar.
Act: Bring respect back. Be intentional with how you treat people.

International Firefighters Day. This one hits different for me.
Before Flip My Life, before any of this, I wore the gear. I know what it feels like to hear the tones drop and have your body move before your mind even catches up. I know the weight of the pack, the heat in your face, the smell that stays with you, the calls you don’t talk about, and the brotherhood that forms when you trust the person next to you with your life.
Firefighters don’t just “go on calls.” They walk into what everyone else is running from. They miss dinners. They miss birthdays. They miss sleep. They carry things home nobody sees and then they wake up and do it again because that’s the job. That’s the oath. That’s the standard.
So today I want to say this as clearly as I can, to every firefighter, every first responder, every family behind the uniform….THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
