I sat down with award-winning filmmaker Justin Hunt, @thejustinhunt while he was in Boulder for @ScorpiusFest , where his latest film Rotten Apple premiered.
Justin is the founder of White Whale Pictures @whitewhalepictures and has built a career tackling difficult social issues through powerful documentaries like American Meth, Addicted to Porn: Chasing the Cardboard Butterfly. Across seven films over the past 20 years, his work has collectively earned more than 80 awards. Justin's upcoming project Symbiosis, a psych-thriller with dark humor and supernatural undertones, has entered 16 screenwriting competitions worldwide with (2 wins, 6 finalist, 3 semifinalist, 2 quarterfinalists, 2 HMs)
In our conversation we talk about the making of Rotten Apples, a powerful docu-drama examining grooming and sexual abuse within schools. Justin shares how the project began as a series of educational videos before evolving into a full documentary, and why he chose to combine investigative interviews with narrative storytelling to help audiences truly understand the impact of these crimes.
