Meet Lisa & Justin, husband and wife, founders of @scissorsmithinc & @smithshearco Together, they’re reshaping how the hair industry thinks about its most essential tool: the scissor. Lisa built her career as a professional hairstylist, from salon ownership to cutting hair across Europe. Back in Canada, she ran a busy home salon while raising three boys with Justin, a retired pro hockey player beginning a new career as a firefighter. They didn’t plan to launch a sharpening company. But when Lisa’s shears went dull, she realized stylists still had few trusted options. The tools that power an entire industry were being handed off to just anyone with a bench grinder. That moment sparked the idea and Scissorsmith was born. They created something no one else had: a dedicated shear service center built just for hairstylists and barbers. No knives. No lawn tools. Just professional shears. Justin became a master of Japanese sharpening. Lisa brought insight only a stylist could offer. Together, they created the Scissorsmith Technique, a repeatable system that values more than just sharpness. It’s about control, balance, and how a tool moves through real hair on real heads. Today, Scissorsmith is trusted across North America, with locations in:
