The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) help companies align their sustainability efforts—but are businesses really focusing on what stakeholders care about? 🤔 A new study co-authored by Schulich Professor Charles H. Cho reveals a growing disconnect. While companies use materiality matrices to balance business and stakeholder priorities, social media tells a different story 📱. Stakeholders talk most about water, sanitation, climate, and biodiversity 💧🌱—but corporate messaging often highlights nutrition and responsible consumption instead 🛒🍎. 📉 The result? What matters most to stakeholders can get muted, while corporate “priorities” take center stage. ✅ The takeaway: For sustainability planning to truly support the SDGs, companies need real dialogue and broader data sources — especially from social media voices. 🔗 Read the full paper at the link in bio. #SchulichResearch #Sustainability #SDGs #Materiality #StakeholderEngagement

The archives have range. 👀 This week’s Throwback Thursday takes us through a few colourful snapshots from Schulich’s history: reception tables, chalkboard announcements, student events, project displays, classroom conversations, formal gatherings, and some very serious York BBA Bulldogs energy. From classroom-adjacent moments to alumni celebrations, these photos show the community side of Schulich: the conversations, connections, and memories that have always extended beyond the classroom. Behind the nostalgia is a bigger story: students building networks, organizing events, sharing ideas, and preparing for a Canadian business world that was becoming more connected, competitive, and global. As we celebrate 60 years of Schulich, we’re continuing to look back at the people, places, and moments that shaped our community across generations. 💙💚 Recognize someone? Know the story behind one of these photos? Have a Schulich throwback of your own? 🔗📸 Alumni — share your memories with us via link in bio. #SchulichThrowback #Schulich60 #SchulichAlumni #TBT #SchulichMemories

“You Had Me at ‘You’’: Grant Packard On The Science of Small Words” “I”. “We”. “You” – these short words are some of the smallest building blocks of language – but they’re also among the most impactful. When we speak, when we write, when we sing, when we sign, we’re not just conveying information. We’re managing impressions, expressing ourselves, and, most importantly, shaping how people interpret what we say. Think about it - Why does saying “I can help?” feel more genuine than “We can help”? Why do songs with “you” lyrics resonate more deeply with listeners? Grant Packard (Associate Professor of Marketing) studies how small language features – such as verb tense or the use of first- or second-person words like “I” or “You” - can shape social perceptions and persuasion. In conversation with podcast host Cameron Graham, Grant discusses how even subtle choices in small words can impact how we’re perceived, how we connect with others, and can even predict behaviour. 🔗 Find out how on this month’s episode of the Research @ Schulich Podcast. #SchulichResearch #Research #Marketing #Language #SchulichPodcast #Podcast #SmallWords #LanguageMatters
