Who is Dr. Victor Rios?
Dr. Victor Rios, a tenured and award-winning professor at UC Santa Barbara, transformed his life from being a high school dropout and juvenile delinquent to earning a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley. He travels across the country offering positive advice to youth and supporting educators to enhance their practices with young people.
Dr. Rios has advised the Obama administration on gun violence and policing. He has authored nine books and delivered a TED Talk, “Help for Kids the Education System Ignores,” that has garnered over 1.7 million views. He is also the principal character in the nationally broadcast PBS documentary, The Pushouts.
As an acclaimed keynote speaker, his message is not just about providing inspiration; it’s about creating change and improving student trajectories. This is a testament to the powerful impact that can be made when communities and educators come together to support our youth and how we can all play a role in collective healing and creating the momentum for a positive impact.
On a personal note, Dr. Rios is a successful business owner and enjoys a happy marriage of 24 years. He takes great pride in his three children, two of whom are in graduate school. And for a bit of fun trivia: Dr. Rios can almost do a handstand!
