Swervedriver are the most underrated band ever, and their 1993 album "Mezcal Head" is one of the best LPs of all time. Don't just take our word for it: Trust indie-alternative legend Bob Mould to tell it like it is. You won't wanna miss the rare chance to catch one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time perform a rare set at our small-scale outdoor event in northeastern Nevada's beautiful high desert. You can catch the band at Wells City Park on Friday, May 29, with White Denim, Hotline TNT, Frankie Rose, GIFT, Psymon Spine, The Stevenson Ranch Davidians and Taleen Kali! Schellraiser's Humboldt Hideaway is the perfect jumping-off point for further adventures in northeastern Nevada's spectacular East Humboldt Range and the Ruby Mountains! Whether you're planning quick trips up to the high country around Angel Lake (just 12 miles southwest of Wells) or Lamoille Canyon, or longer excursions around the Rubies' lesser-known peaks, canyons and lakes, you'll find no shortage of sightseeing options around Elko and Wells. Schellraiser's Humboldt Hideaway will be one of Swervedriver's very first stops in 2026, as they celebrate the 35th anniversary of their first album! You can catch them at Wells City Park on Friday, May 29, with White Denim, Hotline TNT, Frankie Rose, GIFT, Psymon Spine, The Stevenson Ranch Davidians and Taleen Kali. Some of Swervies' other shows this year have already sold out, so don't miss this ultra-rare chance to see them in a unique, small-scale outdoor setting in beautiful northeastern Nevada! Happy Mother's Day to the Mother of Schellraiser, Louise "Lulu" Herndon, pictured here rockin' a QOTSA T-shirt with none other than @shannonshaw at Schellraiser 2022! My mom was hugely instrumental in instilling within me a lifelong love of music – just not the kind of classical music, Gilbert & Sullivan operas and '60s folk she adored. Lulu signed me up for classical piano lessons as a child. But when I continuously rebelled against the stern and snooty piano teacher, she embraced my fleeting tween interest in bass guitar lessons, and my newfound love of the Ramones, Meat Puppets and The Replacements in the musical doldrums of 1987-1988. In an era when many of her neurotic, Tipper-like peers were seriously freaking out about Prince, Madonna, metal and punk, she chaperoned me to see formative shows by Iggy Pop and the Ramones. In spite of her personal tastes, she seemed to take an instant liking to the Ramones, and used to claim that "Cretin Hop" was her favorite song. (She would not have made a good poker player, because I know she would much rather have been listening to Joan Baez.) As the years rolled on, we enjoyed seeing so many other artists together, from the mighty Koko Taylor, to Michelle Shocked, to Ozomatli, to Old 97's. Wonderful memories. It goes without saying that there would not be a Schellraiser or a Humboldt Hideaway without Lulu. After the financial bloodbath that was Schellraiser 2022 – and following regulatory cost overruns that kept soaring into the seven figures – my mom stepped forward in a big way, and helped us stage the next two years of our event. Health issues kept her away from Schellraiser 2023, but she made a brief reappearance at our 2024 event, and was especially overjoyed to see little kids dancing to the music. Regretfully, we will miss seeing her smiling face at Humboldt Hideaway this year. My mom is now in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease, and is completely bed-ridden at this point. I'd like to believe that she'll be with us in spirit, though, and certainly, her influence will be felt all around us.

If there's any upside to the mild winter and spring we've had, it has to be the fact that the road to Angel Lake is now open. Angel Lake sits in a high alpine wonderland just 12 miles southwest of Wells, and the area offers some of the best developed camping spots near town. It's also a great jumping-off point to explore other alpine lakes nearby, and to view the East Humboldts' wildflowers, waterfalls and wildlife. The Angel Lake Campground generally opens around Memorial Day weekend (the weekend before Humboldt Hideaway), depending on weather and road conditions. We'll be checking in with the local ranger station before our event for the latest updates, and will be posting them here as soon as an official opening day has been set. You can also learn more about the campground at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/humboldt-toiyabe/recreation/angel-lake-campground You'll find a link there to make reservations, which are required for most campsites at Angel Lake. Lower-elevation campsites are also available at Angel Creek Campground, just eight miles from Wells. Info about Angel Creek is available at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/humboldt-toiyabe/recreation/angel-creek-campground
